Anyone have Heavy Metal toxicity issues?

I thought I'd start a new thread about this topic.
I'm curious if anyone else tested for this and actually treated it.

What kind of test did you take? (There are many different ones)
How did you treat?
Do you feel any better? Which symptoms improved?
Did it help your Lyme treatment?

I do have several amalgam fillings. I don't plan to remove them. I'm wondering if my Lyme treatment isn't working because I have heavy metal issues?

I have toxic heavy metal issues!  I actually got it tested before catching Lyme which happened to be in the same year.  Maybe that's why I got sick?  But I got better without heavy metal treatment. 

I tested in low ranges for mostly all the metals.  Except for Lead and Mercury (pretty much the worst ones though), I am at the 3rd range of being toxic for lead and mercury.  But it was a challenge test so it might have pulled out quite a bit.

Both my LLMD and LLND don't seem to worried about it.  I might start heavy metal treatment after my bartonella treatment.

IMO, most of the people on this forum have problems with metals. Metals block the methylation pathway and that decreases glutathione production. Glutathione is one of the main components of your immune system. When glutathione is decreased, pathogens can flourish. When pathogens flourish, your body gets robbed of nutrients and other problems appear. Many of you that are really sick have multiple pathogens due to the decrease in glutathione. The quandary of which pathogens to treat, what nutrients to increase, and what and when to remove metals exists. Getting the pathway running efficiently without causing excessive oxidative stress is the key to getting well. We don't have to rid our bodies of the pathogens, we just have to handle the burdens they present. People on this forum seeking help haven't been able to handle that burden.

GH,

Do you think taking oral Liposomal Gluthathione helps? Or is it not enough? For months I did a whole range of Soluna detox products as well as the Gluthathione but it was so expensive that when my supply ran out a few weeks ago I stopped. I really didn't notice much difference. And yes I too tested high for heavy metals. I have mercury amalgams which I'd love to have removed but am not in a financial position to do that.
Also (sorry I know you're not a doc but you seem very knowledgeable) would you have any recommendations for supplements instead of the Liposomal Glutathione? ALA maybe?

I think the liposomal glutathione has the best chance of finding its way to its intended target compared to other forms. I've never taken it and I can't say how effective it is, but getting a molecule through the low pH of the stomach, absorbed in the small intestine, then past the chemically altering effects of the liver is sometimes difficult. Maybe others that have some experience taking it can chime in.

I have used Pectasol-C powder before in the past and IMO, it did remove metals from my GI tract. I don't know if it had any systemic effect on metals though. It would be my number one choice on metals. I have some D-Limonene on order now to try. Chemically, D-Limonene appears to be a more processed version of Pectasol-C. I like the powder of the Pectasol-C better, but the cost is a limiting factor for some. I've heard of others using Zeolite and have some but haven't done any controlled studies to search for effectiveness.

IMO, diet effects metal excretion tremendously.

Utahgal I don't have any metal fillings so I don't know much, but I know the urine tests are more accurate than the blood tests.

When you say diet helps in eliminating metals what foods specifically (I currently juice with fresh cilantro and greens, is this what you're talking about)? Thanks for your thoughts and L-gluthatione. Do you have any thoughts on reduced L-gluthathione? Solgar makes it and I'm wondering how effective it is.

Metal toxicity can be the cause that the antibiotics don't work. Also it can cause a lack of many vitamins because some how the metals don't let the body process food the right way.
My new doctor beleives that unless you treat this, a person wont get better.
Dr. Horrowitz talks a lot about this in his book: whay can't I feel better.
You have to detox.

Hi Utahgal,

I tested high for some heavy metals: Thallium, Lead, and Uranium. The company that did my test is called Doctor's Data from Illinois.

I am currently being treated for metals with two products: Metal Sweep and Detoxamin. I was going to start taking Liposomal Glutathione but the product I bought had citrus in it and I am allergic. Hopefully I can find another brand that does not have citrus.

As for your question if the treatment helping...I have been feeling slightly better lately but it's hard to say with so much else going on (Lyme and 3 co-infections) which remedy is helping what. Sorry - not much help on that one.

Georgia Hunter - I am also interested to know what specifically in our diet can help with the excretion of metals. Thanks.

Metals block the methylation pathway in multiple places. This depletes glutathione and allows more confections to exist. When this happens, the increase in polyamines causes a depletion in most polyvalent cations. This means you are low on selenium, manganese, molybdenum, zinc, magnesium, and copper. This isn't all of the transition metals your body needs, just a few of them. The American diet is notoriously low on many of these metals except zinc. Since they are depleted, there is basically no way for the methylation pathway to function and for you to get well(since many are substrates). So the first step is to replenish the metals. Copper is the main metal that needs to be increased in many people because it catalyzes so many reactions. I prefer to get supplements from food rather than pills. Copper rich foods are organ meat and leafy green vegetables. Basically you are utilizing the principles of the Wahl ' s diet. It's a daily process that takes months, but as your nutrient levels rise, so will your health. It is difficult to maintain, but extremely effective. I eat as many alkaline foods as possible and try to only eat acidic foods that are necessary (like meats). This helped my immune system the most.

If you have been sick for a long while, odds are that your iodine levels are low too. I can't eat kelp so I supplement with 3 drops of iodine once a week. Iodine can be overdosed quickly so I caution on that. It's not for everyone. Copper supplementation isn't either as some people are genetically deficient of essential clotting factors. You'll notice extra mucus in the nose or nose bleeds.

I have remarkable will power and ate only green vegetables for a month. I lost 14 lbs and looked terrible, but it helped several of my problems. As I added essential amino acids back into my diet, I functioned much better. This is the best thing you can do for your immune system. What people eat can either help them or hurt them. Replenish what you are deficient in and go from there. This is the best way to decrease your pathogen load IMO. The antibiotics are needed, but without intact methylation pathways, healing will not occur. Almost all Lyme patients have too much yeast and that contributes to not healing. Antibiotics can't kill all forms of pathogens, only your immune system can. Eating properly is essential and eventually, exercise will be essential too.

I just got all my mercury fillings out. After two weeks of removing my last filling I got severe full body tremors and shaking. My doctor had never seen anything like it. It's calmed down but not resolved but I know it must be connected to the mercury. So, I did have the removed with a biological dentist trained in mercury removal. I'm just nit sure what to do now.

Thank you Georgia Hunter. We are using a Wahl's type diet as well, and perhaps this is one of the reasons we are finding improvements where others are not.

For breakfast K eats egg yolk, beets and a muffin made from almond flour/coconut flour. For lunch she eats wilted kale/arugula added to the previous night's dinner of organic meat, resistant starch made from org. potatoes/sweet potatoes or Lundeburg rice, cruciferous vegetables, carrots etc. Dinner of org. meat with wild organ meat hidden, resistant starch cruciferous veg, coloured veg, salad with copious org. olive oil, sea salt.

I know Wahl's doesn't include resistant starches (RS3), but there is much discussion about it on these sites. It seems to be important for the proper growth of the beneficial gut bacteria.

Thanks so much GH and Rowingmom this info. is so helpful. I've been eating much better but forgot about the organ meats, have to get back on those. I watched Terry Wahl's on youtube, maybe not I need to download her book. Thanks again!
