I began to get tinnitus in one ear after starting azithromycin and amoxicillin while already taking mepron and malarone. Has anyone had this happen to them? My ears where tested and I have high fequency hearing loss in the ear with the tinnitus....it's been about a month now with this. I have neuro-Lyme and Babesia dunanii started treatment by LLMD in October 2014....I'm now wondering if I should stop the antibiotics and go on herbals ....whilst staying on the mepron and malarone.

Have you read the thread at the top of the page titled: "New to Lyme?...Start Here." - The section on detox is valuable - it is a practice we need to do faithfully in order to eliminate the toxins produced by the die-off of bacteria out of our bodies.

I'm wondering if the tinnitus is a herx?

This is a question for your LLMD. Have you spoken to him/her about it?

I can't tell you whether or not to stop antibiotics and go to herbals. You can add an herbal protocol to the abx.
Personally, If it were me, I would continue with the antibiotics, and add some herbals.
Make sure you are doing several detox regimens.

Hi Bmorehopeful, welcome to the forum!

While I know that the Zithro drug itself can be ototoxic, it is def more possible the tinnitus is from
A. Herxing/the die-off of the infections
B. Actual symptoms of the infections because one may be more dominant rearing its ugly head (most likely being babs or lyme is associated with tinnitus
C. Or major candida/yeast overgrowth causing the tinnitus is a possibility.

I have personally dealt with the tinnitus just a couple months ago and I relentlessly searched for info on this. Thankfully most of the stories I read where people were dealing with the tinnitus it subsided in time. Whew right! :)

Welcome to our community!! I'm so glad you found us!

I was wondering the same as the other members - how long have you been on the "new" abx and is it possible that it's "just" a herx?

If you haven't already, it would be helpful for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled,"New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of important information, symptom lists, helpful links and pdf's, how to detox when one has these infections,​ information on probiotics and much more.
