start meds at the same time or one at a time?

Hey guys,
Mom is finally starting the PO regimen until we get the PICC in.
I just have an important question - should mom start these all at once, or one at time. I emailed the doc just now, but I was hoping for some opinions.
She is starting:
- Doxycycline 100mg, 1 capsule twice daily, increase to 2 twice daily if tolerated. WITH food.
- plaquenil 200mg twice daily
- Azithromycin 500mg daily
- Nystatin 500,000 units 2 twice daily

What do you think??

Definitely one at a time! Don't want to overwhelm her.

Hi Babana - Yes, one at a time - this way if there is a reaction - you will have a better idea of which one caused it.

I would wait 3 or 4 days before adding in the next Rx. If she has an allergic reaction it usually happens sooner than later (but not always).


I would recommend starting with Nystatin first for a full week to help reduce candida, then add Zith (usually well tolerated), then plaq (also pretty benign), and doxy last. I'm sure others will chime in also

I agree with the idea of starting Nystatin first to help tame down any possible yeast issues before starting abx.

And, I definitely agree with the idea of starting the abx one at a time and defer to others' advice re days in between.

Same here, I agree with starting Nystatin and spacing the others apart by two days or more, based on how you feel.

I hope you have a probiotic regimen set up and a herx protocol in place because you'll likely need it.
