Gasping for air anyone?

This is the new symptom the last week or so...when my daughter drinks anything, she all of a sudden gasp loudly for air like she's drowning but never coughs. Any idea what's causing this? She's complained of her throat bothering her since the beginning but I pass so many things off as just another lyme symptom. She has also been waking up with swollen lips a few times the last couple of weeks. Sometimes I just feel like her body is so overloaded with this mess. :(

The only time my son gasped for air is during a grand mal seizure which started a year after he got bit and supposedly the 28 day doxy "cured" him. I would keep a close eye on her at night if I were you. How old is she?

I recently had a virus that made me do this for a few days.

Sorry, I don't remember all that your daughter is going through, does she have babesia? If this symptom continues you might consider that.

Hope it is just a passing thing.

She is 23 Simela1. But she has a disability. She was diagnosed with sleep apnea 10 years ago. She has slept with me for over 8 months now, since she's been very sick. She was having seizures a couple months ago but her neurologist said she couldn't because she was on Topamax. I know what I saw...

I'm not sure achievinggrace. I'm pretty sure she has Bart because of her throat, raw & painful feet and the neurological issues she has. But of coarse she could have more than one co infection. I hope it passes too. It's just scary because it's one huge gasp and I get ready to grab her because I think she choking but she's fine after that. The look on her face is of panic for a second.

I have woken up in the middle of the night gasping for air and have also had "air hunger". I believe it is Babesia. My 7yo daughter has Lyme and just went off and (4 1/2 mos amox. + azith). She has been complaining of her throat feeling weird. I don't know what it is. She also has post nasal drip and clears her throat a lot. We both choke on liquids quite a bit.

Could be Lyme/co-infections or a reaction to meds. I wish I had answers for you, but wanted you to know you're not alone. I hope your daughter improves quickly. Swollen lips is a bit concerning. Any allergies? What meds is she on?

I think the swollen lips may be from her severe TMJ. Her jaw was the first joint to go out and it really went! At night she grinds her teeth, so I'm sure it probably causes her mouth to swell.

She also has nasal problems and clears throat a lot. Her LLMD was concerned about having mold toxins also. That could cause lots of problems like that.

I don't think she's allergic to anything, being she hasn't had the swollen mouth in 2 days now. It just comes randomly. I feel like her throat is causing this since she complains with it a lot and even looses her voice everyday off and on.

Does your daughter have babesia? That's what the gasping for air sounds like to me.

I'll echo the suggestion to consider babesia. My son had popping and pain in his jaw until he was treated for babesia. Then it cleared up. Best wishes to you as you search for answers!

Our daughter didn't start sighing and gasping for air until we trialled babesia herbs. Previously she had been asymptomatic for babesia and had tested negative for microti and duncani through Igenex.

Because of these symptoms our LLMD clinically diagnosed babesia-like-organism and OK'ed the addition of the antimicrobial herbs that address babesia/protozoa to her bartonella protocol.

Definitely sounds like babesia, air hunger and apnea are very big on/off symptoms with me

Wow this is all so interesting. Thanks for all the input. I never even thought about babesia. But she really does yawn or sigh a lot so that could be signs of air hunger.

I have trouble consuming liquids without needing to gasp for air. It has become better over time but I still need to take a deep breath in before drinking something and need to take another deep breath promptly after. I have been diagnosed with baronella and babesia. I also feel air hunger which has improved over the years.

My son doesn't sigh during the day, but sighs a lot in his sleep. He also makes this noises that sound like a little puppy crying!

Anyone has any ideas what the sounds could be? I always get goose bumps because I think he is in pain, but I don't know what they are or what causes them. He was not doing neither the sighing nor the sounds before.

Grinding teeth may be caused by parasites and worms.  Dr. K says we all have it and he starts his protocols by getting rid of any gut worms--I think he treats this for 1 month, and then he treats Lyme.  Also, the seizure meds don't always stop seizures and there are many reports from users that they either have break through seizures while on meds, OR the meds stop working and the seizures become more violent.  So I would definately keep an eye on that plus I would consider parasites. 
 
My son grinds his teeth too.  Maybe it could also be caused by stress.  I used to grind my teeth after I was hit by a car, while crossing the street.  My husband was the one who told me.  It caused severe TMJ and I still have it, but it doesn't bother me anymore.  It got really bad, to the point I could only eat soft food.  I could not chew a stake or anything crunchy--eg: nuts--too painful!  My teeth still don't line up, but the pain is no longer there and I eat everything now.

I wanted to take my son for a test for sleep apnea, because he stops breathing at times for 10 seconds or so while sleeping.  His sleeping improved a lot since December last year since he started abx  and we didn't take him yet.

Thanks for all of that. Its very helpful, along with aggravating to think of the possibility of so many things being in her body fighting against her to get well. The first signs she had was severe pain in the top of her head back in May. Then, TMJ that is so severe I can feel her brain pop every time she opens her mouth. She too had to eat only soft foods. Her worse everyday symptoms are now the TMJ, irritable throat, pain in her feet, her body movements are constant all over the place and she has some sort of horrible pain with dizziness in her head that happens for about 20 minutes most everyday.

She has developed OCD and hoarding everything in the house. We don't bother her about it because I think it's her way to keep her brain active and blocking out the confusion.
