Babesia expectations....

I started mepron 4 weeks ago. Added biaxin (1/2 dose) last week. And this week, I've had 2 biaxin doses at full strength.

I've had a couple of mornings with extreme fatigue and some slight anxiety. I've also had an increase in hot flashes....both day and night. I do know, however, that these are normal side effects to the meds. May not necessarily be a herx.

I should also add that I take arteminisin and other Buhner herbs like CSA and Sida.....

How long should it take before I feel improvement? Can anyone share their story?

And, should I ask my LLMD at my next appt to add another med? Plaquenil? Bactrim?

Cryptolepis 5-20 drops a day. Known to clear babs quickly. Hope this helps.

Is crypto the same as CSA?

My dr is actually using crypto to treat lyme. He said his patients are reporting very good results. Right now the dosage is 5-20 and when I went up I started to get possible herxes. So I dosed back down.

I know it is used to treat Africa to treat Malaria with a high success rate. It may be used in the future experimentally to treat certain types of cancers, like breast and prostate. You can use it to help with inflammation with rapid results.

Someone on here said if you had a positive babesia test, you have the golden ticket. I would agree. That means your insurance will most likely pay for Mepron and you can afford the care you need. But there is one thing to think about. A positive test for babesia means you have one of the two strains that the test can pick up. There are many more strains out there and other protozoans like babesia that the test does not pick up. Babesia is "claimed" to be easy to kill but it does have emerging resistance. The other strains may not be as easy to kill. Whatever I have, Mepron for four months knocked it way down to the point where I thought I was cured. I ended up doubling the dose the last 2 months and felt great. Unfortunately, I wasn't cured and it came back. Cryptolepis killed what I have as well but the effects from the protozoan came back soon after stopping it. I'm still looking for a way to kill it completely. So if you go through the proper protocols and still have problems, you may have another strain or a different protozoan all together.

Well said, GH. I tested negative for all coinfections except mycoplasma and C. Pneumonia.

It just seems like most people have bab or Bart, or both. We figured we may as well treat for it. So far, I'm not having any luck. Nothing ever seems to change for me.

Maybe with more time I will notice some improvement? Or, maybe I just don't have any of this stuff and it is just CFS and anxiety?

Although my Infectolab did show 2 mildly positive strains of Lyme.

Hi Utahgal-

I started my babs protocol on Monday. I started with the first 3 days of clindamycin, gradually increasing to three pills and then today I added quinine.

I felt pretty good finishing up Minocycline and had hardly any noticeable herxing with just the clindamycin- just a little fatigue. I am still waiting for the other shoe to drop in terms of herxing for babs. It is not full blown sweats and anxiety, but so far a little more subtle like agitation and fatigue. A couple hours after the quinine today, I am feeling a headache creeping in and this is one I did not see coming...bladder and urinary irritation. I drink tons of water and zero caffeine or sugary drinks so I really don't think it is an infection.

In a few more days I will switch to Biaxin and Planquil, but my protocol does not have me on Mepron at any point.

I think you are herxing. I was kind of bracing for the nightmare Babs herxing, but I am not so sure that is always the case for everyone, at least not initially. I am still very early in my treatment, so there is always the chance I could be eating my words in a few days!

Hang in there! How much longer are you on your babs treatment?

I might buy an e book version. They r a smidge cheaper and you have instant gratification! LOL. I also think Kindle (and probably others) might allow you to highlight and bookmark pages. I'm starting to treat Babesia and I think that the herbal remedies recommended by Buhner will be very helpful. It looks like some of the herbs, such as sida acuta, treat both Bartonella and Babesia. A double whammy - take that Bart and Babs!!!
