Even after the urgent care and ER cleared me the other day, I am still having the chest discomfort and heart symptoms, I can't just go to the ER again cause I can't afford that right now, I guess I could see a cardiologist which I can make and appointment for but that takes time.


So I'm left out of options unless I wait for a cardio appointment, I'm not trying to drop from this but I don't know what else to do, I can't prevent it because I can't afford any more ER trips especially after they cleared me but this chest pain seems like it's gonna take me.


Should I just trust in the ER and hope they got it right? I mean that's all I can really do for now since a cardiologist appointment would take about a week or so for me to see them, I am so scared of all this and am trying to keep composure but this is over ruling me, sorry if this is not too lyme related I am just so lost on these chest/heart sypmtoms and I really don't wanna drop from this, so confused.

What tests did they run at the ER? Did you see a cardiologist there or just a general ER doc? Prob just a regular doc is my guess.

I just went through the process of seeing a cardiologist. My EKG was somewhat abnormal. I had a stress test. They took a lot of pictures of my heart before and after the stress test. Then, I had a holter monitor and a subsequent follow up. I have chest pain, palpitations and have had a racing heart at times (particularly when I took Levaquin for a few days thanks to my PCP-ugh!).

I have PVC's, premature ventricular contractions. The cardiologist blamed my chest pain costochondritis. I know that my costochondritis is most likely Bartonella related. I honestly do think some of my pain could be related to my costochondritis. Maybe not all of it. I think the PVC's could be related to my Babesia. Lyme also can cause heart issues. I am supposed to go back if my palpitations get worse.

My cardiologist did think my heart is healthy. I still don't know quite where it leaves me. However, I do have some piece of mind now. I feel optimistic that my heart issues will improve with treatment. I feel that my heart will improve as I treat Babs and Bart. I think some of my herbs are helping somewhat to treat this.

What are you doing for treatment?

I know it is scary. Try to be optimistic. If you think it might give you piece of mind, it might be worth it to see a cardiologist. It was a lot of effort. However, I am a little relieved. I think it was worth it for me.

I am not in treatment at the moment but will be soon, I only saw a regular doctor who did a chest x ray which came back normal, then she did an ekg which came back alright but my heart rate went up to 104 and my blood pressure was high so she sent me to the hospital just to be on the safe side, but before I left they re did my blood pressure and it was back to normal like 125/80.


Anyway at the hospital they re did an ekg which came back normal and they tested troponin levels and cbc and metabolic which came out normal as well so they let me go and said to just take Advil.

I will most likely see a cardiologist next week since it takes time for them to get me in for an appointment and they are closed for the weekend so I have to call Monday. But yea this is scary I am hoping nothing bad happens until I get in to see the cardiologist.


I am trying to have assurance in what the doctor and ER said but I have such anxiety over this since the chest/heart stuff is somewhat prominent. I am 27(birthday tomorrow) and I was bitten only a year ago. Trying to stay calm today is hard, sorry for venting and whining so much, it's just really giving me anxiety.

What makes you think somethings wrong if they cleared you?

Do you have any risk factors for heart disease? No your 27! You don't have cardiomyopathy (chest xray and ekg would've shown it). You don't have long QT or any other potentially lethal ekg tracing. Those are the big three that cause problems.

Other than that a heart issue showing up at this point in your life is highly unlikely.


You do however have anxiety, and a little knowledge of the bad things that can happen to people via heart. Not a good combination.

Well said BDL. I agree.

It sounds like they were thorough. Anxiety makes everything worse. I know because I get it too! Sometimes, I get sort of breath and light headed when I have too much anxiety. Stay calm and take deep breaths. It will be okay! When I start to feel overwhelmed and scared, I repeat over and over to myself "It will be okay." It calms me down.

Focus on detoxing, which is very productive, until you get back in treatment. We're here if you need us!

Hang in there and try not to worry so much. I feel your pain! Go to the cardiologist if you think it will help ease your mind.

Thanks to you both for being so helpful and supportive! I took a half an aspirin to be safe so hopefully that helps. I do not have any history in my family if heart disease or anything like that, this whole things just confuses me with the chest/heart issues.


I felt better after I got out of the ER but the symptoms didn't subside and have been here for a week. I will check out the cardiologist next week most likely. If these symptoms weren't 24/7 since last week my anxieties would be down, but when it comes to issues like this it makes me think it's the heart and I do not want to have an attack or anything like that.


I guess I will try to relax for the night and try to trust the ER and doctor.

You could just have inflammation in your chest muscle.

Like my cardiologist said, there are more than 10 muscles, and bones, and an esophagus right where your heart is, yet everybody assumes the pain is from the heart, when it usually isn't.

Do try to relax and ignore the pain, don't rub or touch the area ever!

Also are you able to point to the spot it hurts?

I hope that's the case BDL, I hate being unsure, the pain is in the sternum/middle in my chest sometimes, and then it goes to the upper left peck area, and sometimes hits the arm, Mainly middle of the chest though most of the time, it has been getting me depressed the past week cause I really don't know what to think.

Hi Dolph,

I'm sorry that you're experiencing these symptoms... It can get really scary sometimes.
I've been having these same symptoms for 2 decades. My heartrate is always somewhere between 94 and 112 bpm in rest, arrhythmia, and my bp has gotten really high these last years, up to 190/120 (before 110/70). Pain in chest, arm, etc...

a lot of us are dealing with this kind of pain/discomfort. There is a possibility of Lyme causing heart problems, so I think you made a good decission about seeing a cardiologist. Just to be sure and to give you peace of mind.

I've been living with these issues for 20 yrs, and I'm still here wink

BDL, you don't have an email listed, so I can't email you about this privately. You should never tell someone that their chest pain is nothing - especially with Lyme disease. First of all, that's giving medical advice, and secondly, Lyme is known to bring on heart issues.

While working to calm a members fears is always what we try to do, especially in frightening circumstances, none of us are doctors and we should never discourage someone from going to the emergency room if they feel they really need to go - what if we're wrong? We haven't even laid eyes on each other, so there is no way we could have the full picture of what's truly happening.

With that being said, I do believe that since Dolph has been cleared recently, waiting a week to see a Cardio Doc is a good thing. Once cleared by a real Cardio, you can feel relatively certain that you are in good shape even if the pains continue - but should they increase, then you would need to make another appt with your Cardio doc.

Also, are you supplementing your Magnesium levels at all DZF? That might help with chest pains. Have you had your levels checked?

Dolph, you've had some very good advice here, particularly Lymie saying to check your Magnesium. I would also suggest looking at your Potassium. Every time I have gone to the ER with heart anomalies, my potassium has been low. And many times a heating pad applied to the chest helped with relaxing the muscles. Hope you feel better soon.

Dolph, can you reproduce the pain? If you hold still does it hurt? If you take a deep breath does that start the pain or does it hurt worse with movement or stretching?

Thanks for the replies, I am supplementing with magnesium also, the discomfort kind of just happens, not with real movement or anything, only thing I can do for now is wait to see the cardio doctor.

I am trying to get my mind off it for now and ease my anxiety but it is tough when it keeps there, it honestly is like an anxiety type feeling with tightness and all.

It is scary but I can't change what might happen so I guess I will just have to continue to eat healthy and take supplements and look after myself, ugh this is so depressing, even prevents me from enjoying my birthday, it sucks.

Try to relax and not worry, at least for today on your Birthday! Worry does not get you anywhere. It does not do anything productive whatsoever. It only detracts from your health and well-being. Don't make yourself miserable.

You can get in to the cardiologist. That is the only thing you can do. Beyond that, try to let your mind ease. You're doing everything you can.
