Hi - so my little one just started her treatment (herbal/TCM to avoid more stomach issues for now) for bartonella and lyme (band 39 positive with some INDs). We see her doctor again in two weeks. We believe she was congenital, I didn't figure out I had lyme till she was about
2. We waited for symptoms to start treatment as the doctor back then wouldn't treat her without them, grrr.
She is so shy and we're happy that she actually talked to her new doctor the first time : ) We feel we are on a good path for her now.
There's been a little bit of increase in her symptoms - which i'm guessing are herx like or just what it is:
Tingling(slightly heat sensitive related)
Stomach aches (acupressure points not working, but she likes her stomach rubbed unless the pain is too intense)
Groin pain, not stabbing, dull.
Elbow and knee pain she'll take a little rub or kiss for.
She says the bottoms of her feet hurt too, but doesn't seem to need cushions on her feet like I do.
She's 4, almost 5 years old. For the most part she'll acknowledge what's going on and keeps going, even when she's keeled over with stomach pain. She's a strong little girl!
But at naptime and at night going to sleep she'll talk about
the pain more and besides rubbing and giving hugs and kisses I'm not sure what else to do…
Any advice of things to do for her? I've read a lot of time children will take treatment really well, which we hope for. But as a mom i'd love to make it easier for her somehow?

Hi wildGarden:
Welcome to the forum!
What treatment is she on? Can you list her herbal protocol? Is she on anything for inflammation?
Sore soles is usually from Bartonella which also does an ugly job on the GI. Is she taking any probiotics? Bartonella attacks the gut, and she will need a probiotic. 2 of my children had this problem but probiotics took care of it. My 5 yr old doesn't quite get the idea that she needs to take it even if her tummy doesn't hurt. She took it 2x/day for the time she had problems, but now I give it to her only when she needs it because she doesn't quite get what we are dealing with and I don't want to push her around too much.

Hi there,
That's what I used to do with my daughter. I would rub her til she fell asleep. Think that is wonderful you are doing that. Nothing more healing than mom:).
We use a Biomat. Helps with relaxation and detox.
You might want ask if ok to do epson salt baths.
We give a probiotic before bedtime.
Look into some essential oils. I rub them on my daughters feet before bed. Helps sleep.

If you are going the herbal route already, Japanese knotweed and curcumin are good anti-inflammatories. Japanese knotweed is specific for the cytokines released in tick-borne infections according to Buhner.
I second Epsom salt baths if she is not dealing with a CBS mutation. You will find out quickly if she is as she will not be able to tolerate the sulfate.
Once you knock back the bartonella a bit, the stomach pain will dissipate. Herbs are antimicrobial, so probiotics are a must.

so sorry your little one is suffering, I know the feeling as a mom - all three of my kids had lyme (ages 3, 7, 10) at the time. They were in the early stages, so they beat it quickly, but I still have some suggestions-
Yes, as the others said, try the Epson Salt baths.
I gave my kids Florastor kids (probiotic) twice a day.
Fish oil from omega innovations (the real deal) works wonders for the joints - kids take a very low dose, and its a liquid.
Coenzyme Q 10 is good for the muscles. I used to cut the capsule in half and mix the inside liquid with their drinks.
Definitely add Vitamin D to the mix - they took 2,000mg a day. They make a liquid for that too.
good luck - send over more questions if you have!!!

We have her on Minor Bupleurum Formula (Sho-saiko-to; Xiao chai hu tang), Teasel tincture and will be adding in the Ceanothus tincture tomorrow.
We stopped her probiotics last week for a stool test and forgot to add them back in. Goodness, thanks for the reminder!!! It wasn't on her calender where I keep track of the drops and when to increase them, adding it now. Lyme brain!
Thanks for the info on anti-inflams, that makes sense. I've heard about
knotweed before but never understood what it was for.

Right, I forgot to ask the doctor about
her vit D - mine was really low so I assumed it was when she was nursing too(didn't know about
the lyme then).
For the Epson salt baths do you skip the hydrogen peroxide part with kids?
Thanks for all the ideas everyone - we'll be trying them/checking with the doctor too.
Are you guys giving a double dose of probiotics than what the bottle says? just wondering cuz ours says once a day. Guessing there's no such thing as too much of that.

Your little one sounds like a doll--and a champ.
I remember as a kid having the most painful "growing pains" at night. They kept me from falling asleep as well. Same with joint pain starting in middle school. Didn't know it was lyme at that time.
My dad swore by an old remedy that really did work: rubbing my aches with rubbing alcohol. Smelled terrible, felt great.
My mom swore by arnica cream or gel, as well as the homeopathic arnica sugar pellets dissolved under my tongue...accompanied by lullabies, of course. These basic treatments eventually got me to sleep.
At a lyme support group meeting last night someone mentioned that Ben-Gay is working wonders on his incessant neck pain. Made me think of Tiger Balm instead. Not sure that your child is old enough to use/tolerate the warming sensation of either one, though.
Good luck to you and your daughter!

Thanks mauihawaii - the rubbing alcohol is really great! She thinks it smells good! ; )
My fiance is using the rubbing alcohol too on his swollen knees and his spine and is amazed.
We'll try the arnica soon too - can't find it, but i know we have it around...
I like kwan loong oil which is similar to tiger balm i think

wildGarden, this made my day! So glad it's helping your family.
I will look into the kwan loong oil myself...can never have too many natural remedies.
