Hey everyone -- does anyone know a Lyme literate psychiatrist's in the NY or CT area?? Or even a psychiatrist who just knows about living with Chronic Illnesses???? Any info would help .. thanks so much!!!! turn

Try the Psychology Today therapist directory website.

The initial filter is by area (city/zipcode) but there are multiple screens including issues, treatment orientation and insurance accepted. It was how I found my therapist who has helped me tremendously.

Can I ask why you're looking for a psychiatrist? Are you looking for pharmaceutical support?

We go to one of the top drs. in the country, here in NJ, Dr. B - he is awesome and people travel from all over the country to see him. He's published all over the internet, in Cure Unknown and speaks at seminars and conferences for Lyme awareness. Just volunteered and spoke last Sat. We attended and he was excellent as always. So kind and humble too... and he LISTENS!

Dr. B is who I go to next month. Really hoping he can get me to some sort of a normal mindset to where I can actually be out and interacting with people again.

Lymeinthecuckoonut, I know several people working with him for years. It takes a little time to get it all ironed out sometimes and see what really works, but he gives you choices, options, asks which things are priority to work on them first and gives you and idea how each thing will feel and work and makes sure you are ok to take them all.

He is brilliant and caring and REALLY experienced with lyme. You will like him. His receptionist is a little stressed and overwhelmed sometimes, but also kind and means well.

Stop by for tea :) I'm about 5 minutes away!

Sorry, I forget not everyone knows!! LOL! That's what being here for years has done to me!! LOL!!

You will need to enable your email option in your profile in order to receive any recommendations, as we don't allow doctor's names and contact info to be posted on the forum for several reasons. You can enable your email option in your profile, under 'edit profile'. Be sure to click the submit button to actually save your preference.

Then, to send me - or anyone else- an email, click on the blue envelope under their screen name. If the envelope isn't lit up blue (looks gray), then they don't have their email listed with us.

You can also click on their screen name and it's supposed to show their email address there as well. Since I'm a Mod, I have something different happen, so I'm a little foggy on this - sorry!

Hi,

I trying to find a lyme literate psychiatrist in the NW. In the Seattle area. I have hospitalized 6 times for depression, before we found I had lyme.

I checked my list for Washington State and I don't have a LL psychiatrist listed.

I also checked Oregon, and Idaho - in case you were able to travel to nearby states...but nothing.

It may be worthwhile to see if you can locate a Dr that works with chronically ill people (Lupus, MS, Cancer patients), and then see if they would work with a LL Psychiatrist over the phone. It would likely mean you would have to locate each of them and do the leg work to get them to talk to each other though.

look for one that deals with chronic illness. I went to one for awhile and she knew nothing about lyme. She researched it some and she was really a big help.

There is a Dr R in NY city I've read good things about and he also treats lyme with ABX.

I'll e-mail some info
