Full moon tomorrow!! For those that don't know about it's effects...

For those that are new to this, the full moon can, for some of us, bring on increased symptoms. No one is really sure of why, although there are plenty of possible explanations out there, but what we do know is that it's very true for some of us!!

I used to be one of those that would react to the full moon each month. For me when I was in treatment the first time, I would start noticing increasing symptoms about 3 days before the full moon, the day of the full moon and it lasted for about 2 days after the full moon - so 6 days total.

This last time I was in treatment with my reinfection - and only having just Lyme disease - I only responded with increased symptoms for 3 days - the day before, the day of, and the day after the full moon.

We each seem to have our own pattern too.

The good news is you have to continue to put up with me even though there's a full moon!! smilewinkgrin Giggle!!

Honestly, I'm really sorry, LMC Mom. I know that you have rough times when there is a full moon, and my heart goes out to you. But that's partly why I try to remember to put out a warning - for some it's an opportunity to prepare in a way, and for others, like you, it's to help you understand what may be going on with your loved one.

I hope it only lasts a couple of days for your son and you.

I can't explain it(poor short term memory recall), but my doctor talks about the increase in lyme symptoms during the full moon in relation to Chinese cycles of ying and yang. I wish I could remember how he says it well enough to put into words.

There's something about the new moon too. Sorry for being so vague!

But my finance and I are flaring for sure!

Oh no! Do be careful with two of you in the house flaring at the same time!

I agree that some also flare during New Moons - but that number seems to be smaller than those that flare during Full Moons for some reason.

Interesting...can you give us more detail about your physical reactions to moon phases?

I track my symptoms on a calendar that includes moon phases in part because I read that the full moon can bring out symptoms. After a couple of months, it seemed like I always felt my most well around the full moon. Then I realized that all my worst symptoms (for those couple of months, anyway) happened during the new moon rather than the full moon phase.

My body also reminds me of the biological nature of my infection(s) in other ways. On about 70% of days, always between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m., my legs start to feel hot, and then they turn bright red, become itchy, and then after 45-90 minutes, go back to my normal pale color. My doctor thinks it's probably babesia activity. It makes me feel like I'm living a real-life version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

I'm not well versed in Eastern approaches and philosophies like yin and yang (although I respect them as think they must be valid forms of ancient wisdom, just as herbal and holistic treatments are)...but there are plenty of references we can point to in nature of organisms living according to moon cycles. Remember that, even if they are technically bacteria and too small to see, most of the Lyme-related infections can be considered parasites and thought of as little autonymous critters that have found our bodies to be delightful hosts.

As an analog, I was obsessed with fishkeeping when I was young, and all the literature about reef aquariums discussed corals' reproductive cycles. In the 1980s, there were stories in magazines about a phenomenon of corals throughout the world spontaneously clouding aquariums all on the same day, which sometimes choked up filters and even poisoned the inhabitants of the tanks. It wasn't long before people realized that many corals reproduce with the full moon, and the "cloudy water" was actually saturated in coral eggs and sperm. For a while, people didn't know it had to do with moon cycles and found it to be a mystery how the corals in aquaria "knew" to reproduce at the same time as those living in natural reefs--at that time, people pretty much only thought of salinity and sunlight as the only things that fish and invertebrates respond to. It turns out that, however they are lit and whatever the water conditions, and even under a roof in a climate-controlled setting, corals are synched up with the moon cycles and for whatever reason, the full moon is a time when a lot of animals become most reproductively active.

It's not a stretch to guess that this extends to spirochetes, protozoa, and other parasites as well.

I completely agree, American Lymie - it's not a stretch at all in my mind - but I don't have scientific literature that I can point to for the reasons why many of us herx during full moons and for some, new moons as well.

For me, when I was battling the first round of infections - by far the toughest for me in many ways - I was pretty much miserable all the time for several months when I began treatments, so that was hard to track, but before I started treatments, most of my symptoms flare would flare off and on - particularly the brain fog/cognitive issues and pain levels. So for a long time I thought I was only looking at detoxing issues.

It wasn't until I got further into my treatments, where symptoms were starting to calm down that I began to realize and understand that they were connected to the full moon - then I realized that I was also herxing during new moons at times, but not all new moons.

With my reinfection and treatment, I only flared on full moons - which I thought was quiet interesting as well. Hopefully I won't get reinfected yet again to have another time to compare!! smhair

My dh took me down to spend "mom's day" at the university where my daughter is and on the way home, there was some crazy driving on the freeway. I was beginning to wonder if we'd make it home on one piece. There were several close calls. One car passed us and he must've been going 80 mph in a 60 mph limit, weaving in and out of traffic. So it's affects many. So much for the pleasant, relaxing day with my daughter!
