Visible cysts?

Like, cysts sort of protruding from the skin, as opposed to ones buried beneath?

The reason I ask, I've had one underneath my left ear lobe for over a year now - going on two, I'd say. For the longest time, it'd swell up for a period of a couple days, then go back down for a week or so, then come back. Up, down, up, down, never leaving completely.

But, when I started treatment, it got smaller than it'd ever been, and it wasn't swelling up every week, as it used to. I thought it had gone completely, but I could still feel a tiny little bit of tissue or whatever a little tougher than the rest an inch beneath the skin or so.

Still, better than ever.

Sadly, about a month ago, it sprung back up, and it hasn't fully went down since. It goes up and down, but never recedes as much as before I started treating.

Another new thing, it ruptured a couple weeks ago, when it was really swollen and inflamed. Very bloody filling, but not normal blood - it's like pus-y, but there's not a whole lot of the yellow I'd associate with pus.

I've started emptying it every week or so, to see if that helps. Not really.

The color is changing too. It looks really dark purple, light, light black in some places.

I'm worried it's getting abscessed. That would really suck. It should be clean, aside from it being infectious ofc. I use sanitary stuff, and soak it in epsom/peroxide for like 20 mins after I open it up.

But, yeah, what do you think all of this means?

Has anyone had similar? I forgot to do a search of the forum, sorry.

Also, if size matters, at its biggest, it's about quarter-sized around, and maybe an inch tall. Dime-sized around and a centimeter tall, at its smallest. It used to shrink to where it wasn't visible at all though. Sigh. Not helping my looks any. I doubt most people really stop to look there in passing, but still.

Hm. Sounds similar. I guess I should be glad it's just the one. Well, the only one that's so close to the surface to show anyway.

I actually tried that last night, yeah. A few drops of various tinctures - houttuynia being one. It burned at first, then not much else.

How much did you use? I get the feeling you were using whole herbs though.

Yeah, I'm not sure I'm getting all that's in there either. It always feels like there is more. There will be a little squishy pocket, of what I am assuming is the liquid, then like tough, swollen tissue around it.

Sucks.

Thanks though! I will try being a bit more aggressive with it, I think.

You may need to see a dermatologist for it to clear completely. The infection can spread to other areas so be really careful when touching it.

A derm? What do you think they would do to get rid of it? I'm worried it'll just come back, or I'll get another one in that general area, if they remove it. There's a reason the infection likes to pool there, huh?

What would they do?

Yeah, gotta be careful.

I would like for it to be gone. I've been told it could spread to my brain. I guess I've already dealt with, or rather been dealing with, infection there anyway though.

This is interesting...I've had a hard little cyst in one of my earlobes for about as long as I can remember. I asked a doctor about it years ago and she said they are common, especially in earlobes, and generally just a little harmless mass of cells and not to worry about it.

As I was reading your post, I was gently squeezing my earlobe...and then the other...no cyst! I wonder when it went away? Our bodies are so strange...

PS I once had a boil on my bottom that was excruciatingly painful, and I didn't even know what a boil was, so that made it scarier. It grew to the size of a golf ball.

Long story short, I went to my dermatologist and he said they are common, usually the result of a hair follicle accumulating bacteria, after which the immune system packages the bacterial mass with cells to seal it off and protect itself. My dermatologist said some people--those with diabetes and some other chronic illnesses--get them regularly and some simply pop them or lance them at home. He said that would be a huge mistake because squeezing the boil (or a smaller cyst, if it is indeed infection rather than a mass of abnormal cells) can cause it to rupture internally, injecting the huge colony of bacteria freely into the bloodstream. That could result in sepsis. One of my friend's mother's died from sepsis, so that word scares me. He said lancing should only be done by a doctor because to be done right, the boil actually needs to be cut open, and the core and root have to be surgically excuses. Simply puncturing and draining it with a needle won't remove all the bacteria and the abscess likely would simply keep returning, each time posing the risk of rupturing internally.

Not all cysts are boils, but most are probably best examined by a dermatologist. They can tell by looking and feeling, and sometimes drawing fluid out with a needle, what the nature of the cyst is and then advise accordingly.

Yeah, I have a little hard one as well in the same earlobe that has the other cyst beneath it.

I've had those boils too. I still get baby ones sometimes. I used to try and pop them and experience exactly that - it'd feel like it would explode inward. Some fluid would come out, but never as much as was expected.

Anyway, yeah..

I guess I should see a doctor about it again then.

Weird thing, when I first got the cyst, again, like two years ago now, I was all scared, went to the ER, anda doctor cut it open. But, barely anything came out. There was no fluid, yet it was swollen about as much as it swells now on the worst days.

So, it's changed in nature, I guess.

Haha.. I love the complications of all this.
