I'm 17 and a junior in high school. I start classes at 7:20 in the morning Monday-Friday. Around 8:10 I was walking to my 2nd class, and as I was walking my knees got extremely weak and felt like they were going to give out. Has anyone had this symptom?

Have you been diagnosed with Lyme? Do you see a LLMD? I am sorry you have to go thru this. I do not have this symptom, but I have heard of it. Did the feeling go away?

My friend has Lyme disease and she experiences this daily. She has described it as feeling like her knees and below are simply gone at the times that they give out on her. I am sorry you are having to deal with this it is a terrible thing!

I haven't been diagnosed yet or seen an LLMD. I'm still in search of a reasonably priced LLMD near northern NJ. I have many of the Lyme symptoms but the only thing that showed up in my bloodwork was a present IgM p23. I've read the same thing everywhere: if you have this band, then you have Lyme. I saw an infectious disease doctor a few months ago but was sent home with no diagnosis. Now, I'm getting weird symptoms like this one and I'm convinced I have Lyme. The feeling has kind of gone away but my knees don't feel right. I have an appointment today with my GP.

HI Darian, unfortunately you will probably get more of the same with your GP. They are not trained to treat lyme. They are actually trained to ignore it. They will tell you, you are fine and maybe give you an antidepressant. You need to find a LLMD or an alternative doctor that treats Lyme.

Also, if you have not been tested thru Igenx, you should get tested thru them.

Actually, my GP is very good and will definitely agree with me wanting to get an Igenex test done. She'll also maybe be able to help me find a LLMD.

That is awesome! you found a really great doc. You may have to get the Igenex kit and bring it in, if she does not have one. Maybe you want to ask her about antibiotics.

It is really great about your GP. You are lucky to have her. I hope you are able to treat soon and get better quickly.

Thank you so much! Now that you mention it, should I just wait to be tested by Igenex and get an appointment with a LLMD? Because I'm sure that doctor will test me for it too.

Hi Darian,

I had this scary symptom as well. For me, it sometimes feels like my legs are in the middle of giving out until I grab onto something and pul myself up; orthey feel discnnected from my body below the knee; or they sometimes feel that they will bend backwards at the knee (?!); and when I was very sick they felt like they weighed over a thousand pounds. As soon as I started doxycycline the leg symptoms began to lift (within 2 weeks).

I don't think you should wait on the IGeneX test if you have a doc now who will order it, because it takes 3 weeks to get your results.

If your appointment with your GP is free, I would go (only because you said that she is open minded about Lyme). Or you could postpone with her and first get your kit. Go to Igenex web sight and order their kit ( I don't think there is a charge). You can bring it to your doctor (you will need a signature from a doctor). You can get that going while you wait to get in with an LLMD. It usually takes a month or so to get in.

Look at the link in this forum titled New to Lyme. Also, post a link on here with your city and state "looking for a LLMD in your city and state). Make sure your e-mail is enabled. We are not allowed to post doctors names here, so forum members will e-mail you names of doctors. This sight is really a great resource. Then call and make an appointment. Unfortunately, you usually have to pay for LLMD's out of pocket. Sometimes you can find one that takes insurance.

Darian - I had the weak - knee symptom. I also had the tremors with it.
I was driving to work one morning...and I came to a red light...I stopped, but felt like I wasn't going to be able to hold the brake down long enough for the green.

I stopped driving after that for a month until it subsided. It actually subsided before i started treatment.
Lyme symptoms can wax and wane...old ones leave...sometimes come back, new ones arrive...etc.

I've had this symptom twice now, the "flares" lasted a few weeks. It was by far the scariest symptom I've had since being diagnosed. I went to the ER the first time....the second time, I just tried to get thru it. I had MRIs done and all was okay. I've recently been diagnosed with extreme mold toxicity and I'm hoping that by finally treating the mold, this symptom will never come back.

I used to have that feeling all the time, and sometimes my knees actually would give out on me (one time on the top of the stairs, that was a long fall). I have also had my hands give out on me while on a rope at a playground (it was in high school and we were messing around during a retreat... oops).

My appointment was covered by insurance however my GP didn't turn out to be as open minded as I thought. I'm doing one more western blot tomorrow and I'm still searching for a LLMD. I can't seem to find one near me in northern NJ. Once I make that appointment, I'm sure that doctor will want to have me tested thru Igenex also anyway, so one extra western blot won't hurt.
