Lymefight, I am very sorry that your daughter got infected. I am so glad that your doctor started treating her right away without having to wait for bloodwork because the quicker your child is treated, the higher her chances of not having to endure a long recovery.

Amoxicillin works very well against Lyme. I am on amoxicillin right now and it has done wonders for me. We also have a forum member here with a child about the age of your child who is also on Amoxicillin. I hope she chimes in to give her expertise with this.

As for what now, you should read the post at the top of this forum. It has a lot of very helpful information on Lyme and co-infections. Your next step should be to familiarize yourself with treatments, both synthetic (prescription) and natural (herbal) so that you can have an educated conversation with your doctor about what plan might be best for your child.

Hugs to you, it must be so hard having a child with Lyme. Thankfully you were able to start treatment quickly. I would seek a pediatric LLMD if possible to keep an eye on her progress.

I live in Ontario, and all I have been able to find is a doctor within four hours of me that does the igenex test. However, they have started treating her for it so I am more interested in help and information going forward.

They prescribed her Teva-Amoxicillin 250 LS 250MG/5ML (4ML three times a day)... she is 30lbs. Is that what she should be taking??!

You say "remission", so this going forward is something she may live with and always need interventions for? Every time she says her neck hurts or "inside her brain" it hurts my heart. :(

How can I attach a picture here so I can show you her bite... and does her bite mark getting better symbolize the medication working or do they generally fade on their own with time?

Thank-you for your response. As you can tell I am really just learning about all this and I am in a severe state of worry. I am going to another doctor to try and have her med topped up from 600mg/day to the highest possibility of 750mg/day.

I have attached two pictures of my daughters bite & bullseye... is this definite LD in your opinons of people who live/have lived with LD?? Does anything else mimic this...?

Hi Lymefight my child was also effected. We noticed headaches, feet hurt and behavior issues. I found ammox to be very effective. It is difficult to get rid of so be patient with treatment. Good luck to you and your child.

I saw a another doctor today... he stated that the only other possibility of the rash could be eczema... which as of today her rash does kind of look eczema like. However, the timeline of pictures up until this point that I showed him certainly did not look like eczema (posted below) +symptoms of foot pain, neck pain, and headaches. He upped the dosage from 600mg/day for 14 days to 700mg/day for 21 days. I'm feeling a bit more confident in her treatment course.

There is a local chiropractor that was very ill from LD... I booked tomorrow off work so I can have a meeting with him - I have heard from the community that he is very well educated and is always happy to help people with LD. I am hopeful he can direct me to an LLMD to monitor my daughter during her treatment and following.

Thanks so much for your support and guidance... it has lifted a heavy weight knowing I am not alone. It has been more difficult than I could've ever imagined wrapping my head around my sweet little child contracting LD.

Hi Lymefight- I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this. My son who is 3 tested positive for Lyme and Bartonella. Unfortunately we didn't ever see a bite - and I was checking him so we believe he may have actually contracted it from me. The good news is that you caught it and are treating it early. Please make sure while your daughter is on antibiotics to give her sufficient probiotics 2-3 hours apart from the Ammox. Children - especially young children often respond well to treatment. My son has done well so far. And trying to put a silver lining on something like this - at least you know and are learning about Lyme. You or your child will not suffer through years (like most of us on this forum) not knowing what the heck is going on. Bravo to you for being so responsive and advocating for your child. Thanks Girlie! We had another doctor appointment yesterday and her dose was raised to 700mg/day for 21 days. Then we will have another appointment with our family doctor around the 2.5 mark (and hopefully an LLMD). I do hope that because it is stage 1 LD there is an end point for the medication.

Actually the treatment should be one month after symptom resolution - minimum 6 weeks of treatment.

She is just under 14 kg. and the recommended dose per guidelines is 50 mg/kg - 50 mg X 14 = 700 mg. per day.

Hi Lymefight- my son uses HLC high potency (pharmax brand) and Klaire Labs Therbiotic Complete. I'm sure some of the other Moms have some other brands as well - these are the ones that have worked for us. My little one was actually never on Ammox. He did 5+ months of Omnicef + Azithromycin since he tested positive for Bartonella. We started him on that combo because that is what I responded the most to - since there's a good chance he got it from me, the doctor started there. I think it's already been mentioned but my sons doc's philosophy was to treat at least 2 months beyond symptom resolution. Now that we are post antibiotics, he is on herbals - we are doing modified Cowden protocol. Hopefully since you've caught it early her symptoms will resolve quickly. Good luck and keep us posted!

My child was probaby 75 lbs and late stage and he was on 600 mg of cefdinir daily. He was also on azithromax at one point.

I was neuro late stage and could barely function. I was on 1500 ammox and 600 cefdinir in the initial stages of treatment. I varied between the ammox and doxy but it cleaned it up good. You may want to begin probiotics while she is taking the medicine.

I was very sick and it took me 6 months to stabilize. My son has been persistent and is still on abx. I have removed them but he relapsed. He is like 90% better though. His energy levels are very good and he excels in athletics. His intellectual function is also much improved. It def effected his performance in school and concentration. If you need any other information I would be happy to talk to you. Our situation was we had a small farm with livestock so our exposure was prolonged. It may take years to finally get rid of it.
