I live in east central ohio . . . deer ticks are now common on my property (I live in the wooded hills) . . . usually I do a tick check every evening before I shower, but these little buggers are hard to see

Anyways the other morning I noticed a tick with his head buried in my knee area so I pulled him off (in three pieces) with fine tweezers. Now there is a small (about 1/4 inch red ring around the bite hole. . . the tick was not engorged and very pencil point small when I caught him so I don't think he was there long . . . long story short

Lyme disease? what am I looking for? Herbal remedy? ... yes. I'm a vet and the nearest GP is in cleveland so I'd rather not go that 100 mile route. Thank you . . . JJ

Hello and welcome... many folks say get antibiotics immediately... some folks have difficulty
getting the proper amount.

I have chronic Lyme... which i would not wish on worst enemy... if i knew then (when i saw the rash) what i know now... *I would have done anything to get antibiotics... and get this knocked outta my system... But hindsight being what it is... ah well.

I suggest that you read posts from someone named Traveler here on the forum... she has had many years of this (and knows about antibiotics and herbals) and now her hubby is infected. *Her posts may help you decide what action to take. idea

You have a Bulls Eye rash, which indicates Lyme disease. I know the drive is a pain, but early treatment is crucial - 6 weeks of Doxycycline 200 mg twice a day is the recommended treatment.

Even then, it is no guarantee. Early treatment is vital. You can also start a thread "Looking for an LLMD Near" Your City, State. Make sure to enable your email address under Edit Profile so that other members can email you names since we don't post names of doctors on the forum.

In my 3yo daughters case,
I noticed her "bullseye" 11 days after the bite.
Her symptoms leading up was mostly body pain, headaches, and red swollen tonsils.
5 days into treatment: bullseye gone and symptoms much better, but will continue to treat for up to 6 weeks. I am very anti-modern medicine, and only have homeopathic medicine in my home... however, in this case I know treating early is effective so I have my DD on 700mg/day amox. The early stage 1, matters.

Daughter had a 4 day fever--100f to 103f with some lethargy (maybe a headache one day). Never found a bite on her (tried to look top to bottom/my 1st thought was lyme)...rash never came. We took her in ..doc thought (although unsure because my daughter had NO other symptoms) UTI. Tested...came back elevated white blood cells (not too high) and prescribed Augmentin. 1 dose that night and the next morning she was sweaty and fever broke. 2 days later UTI came back neg...so we are still unsure of what she has but i'm continuing to give her aug 2x a day...luckily the bottle we got is huge and should last some time (not sure the amt of days). Amoxicillin has very good activity against burgdorferi ..even more so then doxy in vitro. The only issue is it doesn't penetrate the brain nearly as well...although it doesn't have the round body production problems that Doxy seems to create. So 2 days after this i'm half dead and the next day i have a huge bulls eye rash developing...and now i'm here. So figure that one...

From my understanding they don't prescribe children doxy... my daughter is going on day 6 of amox + probiotics and grapefruit extract. My daughters white cell blood test also came back abnormal and high.

Do you mean your daughter developed a bullseye rash or you did? Bullseye rash is diagnostic Lyme. I would see a doctor while the rash is present, document with pictures. I would also seek an LLMD in your area.

I would think it is best to treat with an antibiotic just to cover your bases since you caught it right away.

I have the rash and i'm on Doxy... she had no rash, and no tick bite that i could find... i just found it odd the timing. My symptoms were far more severe then hers...i will say that. Maybe we both got bit. I do believe one possible way i was infected was her playing with a neighbor dog, although there are other possibilities. I only say this because i found 2 wood ticks that week she was sick on her and just figured it was because she pets the neighbor dog a lot. Who knows. I'm going to treat her for as long as i can on augmentin (amox+clv acid) and i'll stay on my whopping 10 days of doxy===which i'm working to change. We'll probably then have my daughter tested later for Lyme or something.

I'm feeling great after 4 days on Doxy. I'm almost tempting to switch over to Amoxicillin after my 10 days on doxy...just for the sun aspect (spend a ton of time outside)==continue that out for 28 days total.

What Lighterbeing said. Better safe tban sorry. As a vet do you have access to doxycycline? Would save you the round trip??

The new to lyme thread will point you in the right direction with regards to what symptoms may present. Often it starts with the 'flu', but other times not.

I am taking Buhners Herbal Protocol too. I think its on the new to lyme thread. You may want to look into it as prophylaxis as you live in a tick area, and as a vet I presume deal with animals, lol. I caught it at work as a dog groomer.There are other herbal protocols too.

Something else to consider... there are folks who travel 6,8 hours or
more because they can't get proper meds.... like Canadians for example.

An hour or so trip `is nice compared to that... I'm just sayin... wink
