What does MTHFR have to do with Lyme?

Anyone ? My dd is heterozygous (has one mutation from either me or her dad). What does this have to do with Lyme ? Should I get additional testing done for say heavy metals etc ? Is this a dominant gene ? Or is there a chance my son could be homozygous (double mutation)?

MTHFR gene - gets in the way of detoxing effectively. As you know, with lyme treatment, detoxing is important to flush out the toxins that accumulate with the die-off.


There are some knowledgeable people on the forum that understand the MTHFR gene ramifications...and hopefully they'll chime in soon.

There is treatment for the MTHFR gene though - she will need a specific B12, Folate, and B6 (and maybe some more).

Thanks. It's all so confusing. One thing I read says it's not anything to worry about or "treat" and 40% of the population has this, then the next thing I read says it should be treated, it's implicated in several long term health issues and 98% of autistic children show a double mutation !? That's crazy! Luckily we have always eaten organic and non gmo , no processed foods or excess sugar (even before Lyme) so hopefully it hasn't caused her much detox issues up to now.

If you tell us exactly what she is heterozygous for we can help... Which gene?
