Hello!

Okay so last week for a couple days I was having really bad kidney pain on my right side. Thought it was lyme and when it went away, thought everything was okay.

Yesterday i woke up with a raging yeast and urinary tract infection. Ughhhh

So I went to an Urgent Care center out here in California. This was the first time I've been to a doctor out here. He put me on cipro and 2 diflucan. One i took yesterday and 1 i take after the cipro is used up. and A LOT of my lyme symptoms feel better except some feel worse. I had both infections and a kidney infection.

Do you guys know what Cipro is used for? Like lyme and co's? Because my head pressure/dizziness and facial pain are gone since I started taking it yesterday. I always thought this was caused by Babesia but I read some articles that Cipro is used to treat Bart?

However, I have super bad leg pain. I feel like I have shin splints.

I am supposed to take it for 10 days because of the kidney infection.

Hi Elleon,

Some doctors before used Cipro for bartonella. They no longer use it though I believe because it can cause tendon damage (?) I went on it for a bad kidney infection for 10 days and I think that kept my lyme from breaking out for a year.

That is interesting with the leg shin pain- definitely a telltale symptom of bartonella or a bart herx. Have you been treating for Bartonella?

No, i never treated for bartonella. My lyme doc was pretty sure i didn't have it because I never had
any "classic" bart symptoms.

I have always gotten some shin pain with lyme, i just assumed it was lyme itself. But its definitely worse since taking cipro.

Also, my achilles tendons are hurting...so do you think i should stop taking it? I only took 2 pills of it yesterday.

I still have my UTI though. Definitely not as bad but still there.

Interesting. I would definitely call your lyme dr and ask about the cipro. I can't really guide whether or not you should take it. I do think it is a great bart drug but I know you have been in treatment for awhile too so you probably have a few deficiencies which could exacerbate negative effects of the antibiotics. Are you taking magnesium, calcium ?

No i'm not taking any supplements or anything right now. Occasionally ill take some magnesium but that's about it. I haven't treated with antibiotics since January. Maybe like 2 days that's it.
