For anyone that has been to the ER for symptoms, if you begin herxing badly and find you need to go to ER, what has been the ER physicians response and what exactly so you tell them? What kinda symptoms were you having that you went to ER? And what did they do you for you?
I ended upon the ER last fall (prior to dx, and I had no remote idea of Lyme), with a stomach bug. Had puked most of the day, but that was sickest and weakest I've ever been. I used to be able to tolerate being sick but it was terrible. Took several days to recover and get my energy back

I went to ER two nights ago..my herx is at the worst it's ever been..I'm not getting enough oxygen..I'm have been doing a video journal for about a week now.

I was mildly herx at time of ER visit...I'm told her all of my info...and asked her to watch my video of the extreme herx I had experienced earlier that day.

She watched it for 6 seconds..said I was having a panic attack..then insisted I see a neourologist..

I told her I wasn't gonna leave until I get oxygen..

I think she assumed I was experiencing psychosis

I got my oxygen!... that's what I know I need to help get through this!..

If you go into ER and know what you need..don't leave until they give it to you! Guess it all depends on the state and hospital also..

Melimom- The best thing is to try and stay out of the ER. This is why it's so important to continue to detox even on the days we're feeling okay, or good. Sometimes (I've been guilty of it) we focus on deotoxing only on the bad days...and get 'lazy' on the good days...but that's not ideal. Sometimes waiting to detox until after we feel lousy...it's hard to get it under control, and we end up suffering.

Also, be careful adding/raising new medications that invoke a herx...that's why we say go low and slow.


Of course, if you're feeling it is an emergency - you need to go to the ER...but prevention is much better.

I agree with Girlie on this one!! There are too many doc's that are in deep denial of the real issues that Lyme presents. You mention the word Lyme and you will be automatically dismissed here - unless you are experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. I'm very serious about this.

And, you will risk being given steroids for any swelling or breathing troubles - steroids will definitely set back any healing that you have had, so it's best to just avoid the emergency room whenever possible - along with non-Lyme literate doctors!!!

I would say that if you have to go to an emergency room, the best thing to do is to figure out what it is that's going wrong before you get there (if you can), and to not tell them anything about having Lyme.

As Girlie said - prevention is a lot better for us!!
