Something new??? Band 23

So I was looking up something for a member, and came across something that I believe just might show that band 23 is Lyme specific!

All of my research had led me to believe that band 23 showed that although it was specific for OspC, it was not specific for the one strain of Lyme everyone tests for(even though there are over 100 strains that have been proven to cause human illness).

Until I came across these two studies:

"We have found that sera from patients with early stages of Lyme disease contain predominant immunoglobulin M reactivity to a major 23-kDa protein (p23) from Borrelia burgdorferi 2591 isolated in Connecticut. "

"The bands found to be most reliable for the identification of strain B. burgdorferi B31 by IgG WB were those representing the 93, 39, 34, and 23-kDa proteins."

Anyone else read the same things as I do????

Word of warning here. The first link is available to read or download from PubMed.

The second is controlled by the Wiley Online Library. You can purchase it for an lot of money. There is a preview, but only the first page is legible. Everything else is completely blurred out. If you do something like download it (the sample) so you can read it later, when you open the file they have substituted a completely different paper. So you can only read the first page of the sample on your computer. Full access is like $38 bucks and there are cheaper options but they don't allow you to print or save.

I see what you mean, when you try to read more than the abstract you start running into issues - that's quite typical of most of these resources. They have them locked down in some way so that the general public can't afford to track down a whole bunch of articles.

But you can join Pub Med for free - and a few other sites that have these articles too.
