" Lyme disease is diagnosed based on symptoms, physical findings (e.g., rash), and the possibility of exposure to infected ticks. Laboratory testing is helpful if used correctly ..."
www.cdc.gov/lyme/This is part of the political battle that is on going with Lyme disease. The CDC and the IDSA have a lot to loose if they are proven wrong that there is such a thing as chronic Lyme, and that even acute cases of Lyme need more treatment than what they advocate (cram down people's throats) for.
