Hi everyone,
I have been experiencing extraordinarily painful and swollen lymph nodes in my pelvis area and armpits. Now the nodes under my jaw are swollen and painful to touch. I am having the typical swollen knees, wrist, neck, right hip and upper back pain. Walking has been very painful since Friday. I can barely get out of bed or even a chair. My LLMD just added Azithromycin to my antibiotic regimen. Already on Doxycycline 100mg twice daily. Has anyone noticed an increase in debilitating symptoms with an addition of antibiotics? And if so, any suggestions to manage the pain? I have tried the Epsom salt and hydrogen peroxide bath, Arnica, and Advil. My doctor prescribed me some Oxycodone for these bad days. Anything other than narcotics help with the painful nodes? Thank you. I hope you have a very good day.

Swollen lymph nodes can be from the lyme infection - as they act as filters of toxins in our body...


But, can also be a sign/symptom of Bartonella.

Does your LLMD think you have bartonella?

That's a herx....

You could try lymph massages - someone posted a link on one you can do yourself...I will see if I can find it.

Also, up your detoxing...that will help with all symptoms of a herx. you need to flush the toxins out of your body...your lymph nodes are overloaded with the extra load.

Did your LLMD suggest you take anything to help your body clear the toxins and bioflims. If your having lymphatic swelling from die off than your system needs a bit of help. When I started on abx's I also started taking Astragalus, Chlorella, Nattokinase, and Serrapeptase. Lot's of water and the lymphatic massage Girlie mentioned should help get things going. You can get everything from Amazon.

Toxin build up in your body will make the herx that much more difficult. Masking that with Morphine makes it more tolerable but doesn't help clear the toxins through your kidneys or liver.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I started Chlorella and am drinking a bunch of lemon water. I will see my doctor later today too. I greatly appreciate your help!

Dry- skin brushing with a natural bristle brush is good for geting the lymphatic system moving, too.

Epsom salt baths are effective.

I will take the Epsom salt and hydrogen peroxide bath this morning. I went online and purchased a natural bristle brush from Amazon last night. My lymph nodes feel better this morning. I am thinking adding the Chlorella supplement really helped. I cannot do a full bath daily due to living in California with strict water restrictions. Thank you to all who gave me advice. I will definitely add them to my daily regimen. It sure is amazing to be using so many herbs and antibiotics. :-)

I would suggest that you do the full baths when you can, and do the foot soaks on the other days then.

It has been a tough week now with the pain, especially my right hip. I am still barely able to walk right now, which is really hard for me as I am an avid trail runner. I noticed with the pain I have a much lower tolerance with any type of stress. I will try a foot bath tomorrow and see how that goes. My doctor did test me for bartonella and I was negative. But she wants to retest me twitch my next set of labs. Hopefully it is still negative for Bartonella.

Dogmom - the tests for Bartonella are even more unreliable/inaccurate than the Lyme tests.

Bartonella is diagnosed clinically - symptoms...and response to medications.

Is this a LLMD you are seeing? The reason I am asking is because of her wanting to test you again for Bartonella. A negative test doesn't mean anything...
What testing facility is she using? I guess no harm if you're not having to pay for it...but if it's costing you each time...i wouldn't bother...maybe once, but not twice...

A negative Bart test means little unfortunately, as it's very unreliable. If you have the symptoms - like severe Neuro symptoms - then you have the infection.

I like Dr. Schaller's writings on Bartonella, and it's what helped my doctor determine what my treatment should be and what to watch for.

It became clear to me after a few months of treatment that I had Bart. My LLND and I talked about it and he agreed.
IGENEX will tell you that the coinfections testing isn't good enough yet.

Are you seeing Dr G or the female at the other practice?

So far, I am still seeing my neurologist who is Lyme's disease literate. Though due to a change in my insurance at the end of this month, I am going to try Dr. G.

Try heat on your hip. That might help. It's helped me when my right knee randomly burns.

Dogmom - that's why I asked if you were seeing a LLMD - because she wanted to retest you for Bartonella it made me wonder.

I'm glad you will be seeing a LLMD.

Thank you so much for all the support and advice. I am feeling a little better tonight. I will try the heat on my hip. Now I have an idea how my Mom felt before she had a left hip replacement. Having a sore hip is awful. This has been the most debilitating symptom so far. I had to call in sick for two shifts, thanks to this hip not allowing me to walk normally. Instead of taking care of patients, I am having to take care of myself. 😕

If the pain lessons what about lidicane patches so you can work?
I have them from before I had Lyme. I've used them a few times in the last few months and they've helped.
Stretching, using my foam roller, and heat have helped.

I know what you mean about the hip pain and not being able to sleep or function well. I have some damage to my hips from when my son was born (he got stuck - literally) and Lyme sure had fun with that! I could be in so much pain at times, it was unreal.

Have you ever tried arnica montana for the pain, or an arnica ointment? When I had arthritis attacking one finger joint really bad (red, hot, swollen, couldn't move it) my doc told me to get some arnica and DMSO (just a few drops) and mix them together and put that on my finger right away. The DMSO pulls the arnica down into the joint - and brought some needed relief.

I hope you can find some help soon.

Thank you, Traveler, I actually have been using Arnica. I think it helps. I use an Arnica gel. I do use a Fentanyl patch for my constant pain. I had a nasty night last night with my severe general body aches and my arms doing these weird, involuntary, spasms. i wonder if that could be a symptom of the Lyme's or maybe the first dose of 3.5mg Naltraxone? interesting to note, I have been running low grade fevers off and on since last Friday. My temperature is usually around 98.2degrees and when I start feeling sweaty and increased aches, my temperature increases to 99degrees and up to 99.9degrees. I did not realize the Bartonella was so tough to diagnose. I definitely have some of those symptoms, including irritability. I have been very intolerant to stress lately. And I normally do deal with stress well so this is not my usual attitude. I am trying to get in to see a LLMD that jrpsf sent me. I hope to see one by next month at the latest.

Do be sure that you are on the cancellation list, so that you will get called if someone cancels their appt for some reason. It can really cut your wait time for some.

You can try taking either Alka Seltzer Gold or a Benedryl to help with those involuntary spasms. The Alka Seltzer Gold helps some with their herxing, and the Benedryl will depress the CNS (Central Nervous System) and will help alleviate some of the spasms.

It could be a herx reaction, as the LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) raises the immune function, which will kill off some bacteria, and could potentially cause a herx.

And if you are getting the fever of 99 - 99.9 and then the aches and stuff starts, then that too is from die off and can be eased by detoxing.

Keep trying things to find what works best for you, and keep detoxing just as much as you can. I hope that you can get in soon!!!

I did order the Alka Selzer Gold on Amazon. I am looking forward to getting it now! Thank you so much Traveler. I started taking Burbur to help with the detox. My pain was not too bad today. I did work so perhaps I was to distracted to notice. 😳
