Taking Rifampin and Mino together - question

Girlie, you can just take them both together on an empty stomach. It's easier that way and you just dose once. That's how I did it, just both at once on an empty stomach. I think ceftin is the one that needs to be taken with food.

Rifampin is better taken on an empty stomach as more is absorbed that way, it binds to food and you poop a large amount of it out if it is taken with food. The Mino is fine to take on an empty stomach too. That's the better way, and it doesn't get dragged deeper into your digestive tract that way too.

I took Rif/Plaq/Mino together first thing at 5:15 am before eating, and again at 6pm arriving home from work before diner.

Mino is easier on gut than doxy.

I take mine on an empty stomach too Girlie. mino is one of the few antibiotics I didnt feel ill taking without food.

thanks LymeintheCuckoonut - good to know it doesn't upset the tummy. Does your Dr. not want you to take them with food though? The reason for this is that we may be on antibiotics for many months - it could be hard on the stomach in the long-run.

So, you are right to take them with food.

But Rifampin is one in particular that needs to be taken on an empty stomach for it to work best.
So, either i take them together on empty stomach...or I take Rifampin on empty stomach, eat and then take mino.


So, I will take them both on empty stomach, and see how it goes, I guess.

My doc didn't give instructions one way or another. I absolutely hate eating breakfast and it typically makes me sick for most of my morning while i'm at work. I found out I could tolerate it by hoping to bypass this reaction by not eating in the AM after dealing with the same cycle for several weeks. Havent had any problem since and I've been on mino for several months.

Searched this thread up and reviving it...

So I am not giving up on azithromycin yet. I took today at work right before I ate lunch and it kicked my butt again! It's just so hard on my digestive tract. The only other abx that gave me that much trouble before was Augmentin (not for these infections).

I am going to try to take my Mino (doesn't give me any issues) , Plaquenil(no issues) and 500 mg Azith first thing tomorrow morning on a completely empty stomach.

If it still upsets me, I'm going to tell my LLMD thursday when I go - maybe she can switch me to something else.
