Looking for LLMD in Brooklyn, NY

Hello Lymies,
I am in search of a low cost (eek!) LLMD in or near Brooklyn, NY.
Ideally I would love to find a doc who understands how to blend eastern and western medicine and takes United Oxford Liberty insurance...

Thanks for any help you can offer.

i don't think there ARE any low cost LLMDs in new york. also, we haven't found one that will take any kind of insurance. No LLMD names are ever posted here, but get shared via email. i'm sure a moderator will get back to you. good luck.

Nora unfortunately you will have to go into Manhattan to get a LLMD. I can refer you to mine but they are not "low cost" and don't take insurance, and I don't know any who meet that criteria. Please send me an email if you want the name.

I have heard of a ID in Staten Island who takes insurance but I do not know if he is truly Lyme literate. Send me an email. You too, lmb520.

Seems like so many people in NYC have Lyme now. Terrible.

Yes, there is a Dr in Brooklyn who does treat lyme patients, but you have to bear in mind he is not an LLMD, he is an infectious disease Dr.

However, I have had several people on this forum who have been very happy with him. He also has an office in Staten Island - this may be the same Dr Sara is talking about. I will email you his info!

sarah - tell me about it, too many people in the state of NY period!!! =(

We found a doctor in brooklyn who was recommended as a lyme specialist and was an infectious disease doctor. he took insurance. my son brought his igenex results with him, which showed he was positive for lymes. the doctor said he was not. you can email me for the name.

^ If he said that your son was not positive for Lyme when he was, why would you recommend him? I'm not trying to be short, I'm honestly asking.

mommychops - oh my, i need to hear about this, there were two forum members who really liked him. whenever i give his name out, i just give it as a recommendation from others, not from myself - but still, if he isn't any good, i need to know!! is your son seeing a pediatric llmd now?? i hope you dont mind if i email you, i would like to know more, thanks!!

yea, why is Lyme so rampant in New York?
I've heard a conspiracy theory about an old animal testing site on some island near Brooklyn that supposedly released a bunch of awful bacteria sludge into the water. I was already positive for lyme and then got a bullseye recently, after swimming at Ft. Tildon....

oh no! i heard that alot of people who live in the city go to the hamptons for the weekend, bring their dogs, the ticks hop onto the dogs, the dogs go back to the city for walks in central park, and the ticks find a new home - just peachy right?!!

noralove, sorry you have not had luck. We exchanged emails so I assume you called my doctor? There really aren't any other options as far as I know, other than what I sent you.

Maybe you can try getting in to see Dr. Z? I will send you another email.

Looking for a good second opinion on Lymes in Brooklyn/Manhattan, that takes UHC preferably. Was bit in June, diagnosed July. Some recent test came back positive although doc says they have a high false positive read. Looking for a second opinion as I still don't feel 100%. Any suggestions?

tjh314, please send me an email. I can provide doctors' names in Manhattan but I don't know any that take insurance. There are NO false positive Lyme tests, FYI.

What test in particular came back positive? Could you share that with us?

If it's a lyme WB - then - that Dr. is wrong - they don't have a high false positive....in fact quite the opposite - they have a high false negative.

I am glad you are seeking out a LLMD to be evaluated - that is a good decision.

Yup, that's definitely a positive - good decision seeking out a LLMD.
