I just got back on Doxy a few weeks ago, along with taking some homeopathic nosodes - Borellia/Babesia formula and a few days ago I woke up with TMJ pain in my right mandibular joint, as well as a burning pain in my right upper leg/hip joint (don't know the name!). It's not debilitating, but certainly "there"!
But the strangest thing is that from one day to the next, my bite was completely off. My back teeth don't even come together! For the last 4 days it's been this way, but after 2 - 4 hours my bite seems to come back and I can chew again, although not not as well as before and with pain. Morning smoothies sure are coming in handy at this point!
I have read that TMJ is definitely a symptom of Lyme - I just wonder if the fact that my entire jaw is misaligned while I sleep means that I'm grinding my teeth? I didn't think I was and husband hasn't noticed either. Now I'm thinking about
buying a mouth guard to wear at night or going to my dentist, but the way Lyme symptoms come and go, maybe I should just sit this out?
Any suggestions? (Thanks!)

Sometimes I get jaw pain from babesia. Considering you're taking a babesia formula this might be related.

Keylyme,
Go in front of a mirror and very slowly
open your mouth as wide as you can. Than just as slowly close it. You should see a jolt/movement to one side as you are either
opening it or closing it. The jolt will be very quick. If this does happen-than repeat the very slow
opening of your mouth but this time have one hand placed against your cheek while you do it with just a tad of pressure. Place your hand on the side you need to move your jaw back in to alignment on. If your not sure you can do this on both sides. It won't do anything on the side that doesn't need to move back in place. Repeat the same thing while closing your mouth. I clench on my left side so placing my right hand on my right cheek takes care of the issue for me.
My daughter grinds and we were taught this 15 years ago.

Jrpsf -
Thank you for writing this great piece of information! I've just tried it, but couldn't really see the movement or jolt, however it's worse in the morning when I wake up - I can't even bring my back teeth together to bite. So I'll try this tomorrow morning. This is so nice of you to post this.
My right jaw is very sore now after having chewed my food at lunch - ouch!

Let me see if I can explain this better.
open your mouth so your jaw is extended as far was possible. You should feel the stretch. You can then place your hand on your cheek with your palm on your chin. When you go to close your jaw (slowly) exert a little bit of pressure as you close it. That will re-align it. Repeat with your hand on opposite side of your face.
It's likely your clenching your teeth. More people clench than grind. If you are past the point in your Lyme treatment where you no longer have any tooth or gum issues than it's very worthwhile getting a mouth guard made at your dentist. If you still have flare ups when you start a new protocol wait. I'm going to need a new one when this is all done. After wearing one for over a decade it was causing me issues. My dentist tried to adjust it and it was still bothering me. That was before I realized I had lyme.

Yes, Jrpsf, I got it this time - this seems to help - thank you so much!
I think you're right - I must be clenching my teeth at night. How strange! I guess I'll wait until I've settled in to the Doxy and Homeopathic nosodes before I see my dentist. I've "cried wolf" with him in the past with tooth pain that I was sure was an infected tooth, only for it to disappear a few days later.
Thanks!!

Ohhhh!! I'm a teeth clencher - or rather I was. New dental implants have stopped me at least temporarily!
I've noticed that when I'm in pain is when I do it the most, but also in times of stress, even if it's just stressful on my body and not my mind/emotions.
We have to remember that Lyme LOVES the mouth too. So pains and issues may ebb and flow like they do elsewhere in the body - but I too have had those phantom tooth pains due to Lyme.

Keylyme with regard to getting a night guard, before you pay for a dental visit, impressions and the making of a night guard see if your local pharmacy has an inexpensive one that is adjustable and form fits. We have them here in Cali.

Thanks for your input, Traveler!
Thank you, too, Pete! An adjustable night guard might be the way to go - do you happen to know the brand that you're referring to?

My girlfriend used The Doctor's Night Guard from Target - $18 She said he had to take a fingernail file to it in places so it didn't rub on her gums, but then it was great.
