I totally regret not reading all of Buhner's books from the get-go. I honestly didn't expect to get a Lyme Dx and it didn't seem like my LLMD supported the use of herbs. I also expected to heal more quickly - after all, I started treatment the day after I pulled the tick out of my abdomen...and I had no symptoms!
My ILADS-trained LLMD was adamant that I've only been dealing with Lyme and seemed to be grasping at straws during my last appointment when I told him I just couldn't seem to shake the mild PNS issues I developed on abx even after almost 6 months on Cowden.
Based upon a few herxes I had on one of Cowden's babesia herbs, I told him I decided to trial Buhner's babesia protocol and I herxed like I did on abx.
My LLMD still held fast to his diagnosis even after I shared my experience....and even after sharing what I'd learned: that healthy people can sometimes have asymptomatic babesia and/or bartonella infections...and they can impede healing from Lyme....or they get those same types of infections after a tick bite.
Thankfully, my LLMD is supportive of my experiment and I'm anxious to report back to him in a few weeks.
Why? Because I'm finally experiencing improvements!! I know my LLMD will be happy to hear this and I expect to hear him tell me something he's told me before "I learn a lot from my patients".
It's very rare that we only get Lyme with a tick bite. Tick saliva is like a salad bowl.
Since you're joining the hippies (going herbal ;), it's easy enough to treat babs and bart while you treat Lyme. Knock 'em all out at the same time rather than make a later discovery that an untreated infection is impeding your healing.
I understand the challenges with reading and learning. We will help you.
In fact, if you are so inclined, Buhner recommends certain herbs to help with brain fog.
Now that I've been following his protocols for a little over 2 months (and am far from maximum doses), I actually feel like I have my brain and my body back. His approach makes a lot of sense to me and it clearly works for me.
Buhner's books contain a LOT of information. I've read the babesia section of the coinfections book that covers it easily 3 times and reviewed the protocols/supportive herbs sections countless times.
Ask as many questions as come to mind. We're all in this together.
