It is an uncommon, however, possible side effect..
Synthroid is thyroid hormone so to claim that any issues taking it are side effects just doesn't make sense to me.
It's not uncommon for people to experience a worsening of their symptoms after starting thyroid meds (sound familiar? lol)
I suspect the person needed T3 which she wasn't getting from Synthroid and that explains why she is doing better with Armour.
Still, some people have lingering symptoms on Armour and it's often due to the need for T4.
Our brain, pituitary and adipose tissue need "fresh" T4 to convert "on-site".
Armour alone will just not cut it for some people unless they are taking a high enough dose that will achieve a FreeT4 level above mid-range. This often results in a FreeT3 level that is over-range. As long as the person doesn't have hyper symptoms, all is well. Otherwise, the addition of T4 can balance things out.
It's optimal FreeT4 and FreeT3 levels that help a person achieve freedom from thyroid symptoms/
