Mold disease, lyme or both?

I am wondering if my lyme disease is actually mold disease or both. Has anyone had experience with this? Living in a home that has had a lot of water damage. When I went away from home, I felt I started to heal. Also my son who has always had daily congestion, went away and the congestion stopped. I am looking into getting a stool & urine test for mold in my body. Please let me know if anyone has gone through this.

Candace I've found mold being a potential culprit in sickness to almost never be the case. Others might argue but that's been my experience. You have to have a pretty bad case of mold as the spores need to be airborne is sufficient quantity and duration to effect you. It could be your house is harboring something else that's causing health issues.

My advice would be to get your house tested for mold. That's easy to do. If that yields nothing get a deep cleaning of your house to see if that cleans up anything that your sensitive to. If that doesn't help try to identify any chemicals that are widely used in the house (cleaning supplies, etc.) that could be causing allergic reactions. You can also get tested for the base allergies to rule those out.

I tested the upstairs of the house for mold and it does contain 2 molds that are not good but not at high levels. I got a full allergy test and the only thing that came up on it was high mold level. I got a hair analysis done and high uranium showed. So now testing for radon in the home as well although I don't think that would cause lyme type symptoms. Mold & Lyme symptoms seem very similar. In fact I think I have more mold symptoms than lyme. Someone posted in archives that when lyme patients don't get better with treatment that 7-8 cases out of 10 are because it is mold disease. Anyway, not sure what to think at this point.

Please understand that Lyme treatment can take many months and sometimes years depending on how long a person was infected before starting treatment.

I don't know where that person got the information that 7-8 cases out of 10 who don't get better with Lyme treatment is because of mold.

If anything, people who don't get better with Lyme treatment often have one or more of the co-infections that accompany Lyme. Leaving those coinfections untreated can impede healing from Lyme.

All of that said, are you in treatment? And, are you being treated for specific infections? If yes, what infections are you being treated for and what have you been doing for treatment?

Knowing the answers to those questions can help us help you.

Hi Candace, did you test positive for Lyme? You may be dealing with both Lyme and mold, but if you have a positive Lyme test, the mold is not imitating the Lyme. You may have both. Does that make sense?

There are actually MANY that have issues due to mold. One of the mod's here has issues with both Lyme and mold, and there have been quite a few others. It's likely a gene mutation that allows one person to live with mold and another to not live with it, so it's not like it's something we have control over.

So it's a good thing to recognize your issues with mold and get tested. If you have a mold 'infection', then you will likely find it very difficult to heal from Lyme, although that takes a long time for many of us to heal from as well. You can most certainly have both mold and Lyme issues. I've watched members posts as they treated their mold issues and as they healed that, Lyme symptoms became more and more prominent since the mold was no longer the dominate issue in the body.

I would encourage you to pursue the mold testing for your body, and to continue with Lyme treatment at the same time as one treatment will be for the fungus in your body and the other will be for the bacterial infection. Do be sure that you are detoxing well as your body will have a lot of toxins to process out.
