Hey all,

So I was doing some research again on IR saunas and it came across information on the fact that tent saunas such as the portable tent sauan I have by Therasage can off-gas and give off chemical toxins, which in an enclosed space will reabsorb into the body making you more toxic not less, which is what saunas are supposed to do in the first place.

Has anyone done a lot of research on which is the best sauna out there on the market and are they using a really god one?

There are a lot of different saunas out there! A lot of it depends on how much room do you have and money? A girl that Iknow that had lyme got her sauna at Costco (Dynamic-Madrid-3-person-FAR-Infrared-Sauna). She did a lot of research on the wood, glue, and glass to make sure it was all non-toxic. She claimed it saved her life through this disease.

My husband and I looked on Craigs List and Amazon. We got JNH Lifestyle 2 person Far Infrared sauna off Amazon. We got Canadian Hemlock wood because I was afraid the Cedar would have been too strong smelling for me. We spent $1,100. It was delivered to our house in a couple of large thin boxes. This all came in pieces and we had to assemble it! Happy it didn't rain that day! The heater only goes up to 140 degrees. I worked my way up to 140 degrees and 50 minutes daily. I have heard of some people going hotter, but I think 140 seems pretty standard temperature for lyme patients.

While doing research, I also thought about the portable sauna, and like you I read about the toxins being reabsorbed. That is why we got the one we got. I personally can't swear that it has been my saving grace. I think that my body doesn't detox well.

P.S. - we didn't do a lot of research on ours except what was said on Amazon. I was desperate for some type of relief!

I just got my Sunlighten up and running and so far I love it. It's made from Basswood which does not off-gas (according to the company). Supposedly The EMFs are also low but I have not personally tested them - taking the company's word for it. I believe they have a "portable" version but it is not cheap.

I spoke to one of their reps today from sunlighten and they claim to be the best on the market of course. They use bassword and cedar which are both non toxic. The rep told me for Lyme patients she would use the solo pad. Did you research that one?

The solo pad must have come out after we got our sauna so I never considered it. That said, just reading about it on the website, my biggest question is the memory foam aspect. In general memory foam is pretty toxic stuff. If you're looking more for a pad type thing, I would lean toward a Biomat. There are a number of members on here who have had good experiences with those. Again they are not cheap. Another note on Sunlighten, I found their sales pitch to be ridiculous. I had some guy telling me that certain celebrities were using Sunlighten because it made them look younger (or some stupid claim like that). Honestly it almost caused me NOT to buy the sauna. The reason I went forward was that multiple doctors I respected either recommended it or had a Sunlighten brand in their office.
