Is anyone using Alinia? I want to ask my son's LLMD for it. If anyone is taking it, what is your dosing? How long is it used? I know for giardia and cryptosporidiosis it is usually given for 3 days max. But I don't think that's how it is used for Lyme. Thanks for any info.

Hi I'm taking Alinia right now and it's used for Babesia as its an anti-parasitical. You take 1 pill 2x/day for 3 days. I'm on a course of 4 weeks of this cycle and have completed 2 cycles. The first cycle my head felt hot/flushed which is different than my normal head issues. Second cycle I had the hot/flushed feeling again but it only lasted a day or so.
To be honest I'm not sure it's done anything for me because all of my symptoms have increased. Now some would call this a herx but for me I typically don't herx. I also switched from Cefdinir/Tinidazole to Zithromax/Tinidazole and that's not doing as well either. This is what happens when you switch too many things around!
Alinia can also be very expensive if your insurance won't cover it. I heard $1200 for a 1 month supply (24 pills).
In summary I'd say it didn't do much for me. Coartem was more effective you might want to try that as a substitute.

Hi- my 4 yr old son is taking it. I guess you can say we 're "pulsing" it, sort of - I give it to him for 5-7 days around the full moons. He's taking the liquid version and I believe it's 3ml 2x per day. We're starting our next dose today and it's hard to tell if it's having any major effect yet. I know some kids have taken it for 30+ days and had good results - others nothing.

I am about
to start on Alinia. What are the side effects, are they painful or just uncomfortable?

alinia is well tolerated and has little to no side effects. any side effects is likely a die off reaction to the medicine. please let us know how it goes!

I was on Alinia for Bart. I took it with Biaxin and Rifampin. I pulsed the Alinia three weeks on and three weeks off. As Rikky said Alinia by itself has no side effects. For me when it was added to the Biaxin and Rifampin it packed a powerful punch. It felt as if I had been light on fire. I also made huge improvements.

Stopped the alinia. Numbness was occurring in both feet and hands. Scary.

Sorry to hear that. How long were you able to take it before the symptoms began? What are you going to do in lieu of?

I'm on my fifth day of Alinia. I've been increasing the dose slowly and so far I've only had a little nausea and constipation....oddly enough. my doctor wants me to take 1000mg twice a day. this seems like a high dose compared to what I've read. i am not even close to that dose yet.
