Can candida overgrowth alone be as debilitating as Lyme? And are GI issues a universal symptom?

I know the lines are blurred when it comes to symptoms from both. I'm beginning to think I have a pretty significant candida problem and never addressed it too much because GI issues have been minimal up until the past two months where my brain fog and upset stomach(gurgle, bloated feeling all the time) really started getting worse. GI issues have not been a huge problem and I've been able to tolerate most foods seemingly, but maybe I'm missing the big picture.

What's the likelihood of having candida without Lyme? Looking back, I had a fungal infection under my toenail a few years ago before I suspected Lyme. The brain fog and body aches were happening then but not too severe. I took Lamisil for the yellow toenail I had from the fungus.

After doing research just now, i read that prednisone exacerbates candida pretty bad. I took prednisone for two weeks almost 3 years ago, and that's when things went haywire. I thought I was dying. My nervous system was going nuts and headaches were crazy. Brain fog was at its worst and I was sick like that for 3 months until it finally let up some.

That makes me think Lyme, so I'm trying to figure how bad candida overgrowth can be if the infection is systemic and chronic. I imagine it's hard to distinguish when Lyme and cos are involved.

Or is it likely I'm just dealing with both? I've been taking probiotics, molybdenum, and Yeast ease for about a week and I'm getting spells of feeling really good and then the herxing from the candida comes back(I think)

Just wondering if I've been overlooking candida and focusing too much on everything else. I've taken Diflucan periodically with antibiotics but didn't see much improvement. Granted I didn't take it continually for too long.

I know there's ton of Candida info here, but maybe someone can give me insight on my situation.

HI, I was having trouble healing and my doctor was telling me I was cured from Lyme and that we were missing something. I was tested for Candida and I had it pretty bad.

The symptoms I dropped from curing candida are as follows;
sore neck
headaches
nausea
minor tooth/jaw pain
plugged ears
head pressure
chest and upper back traveling pain
fatigue
hair loss (this was a big one)
muscle aches
joint aches
muscle twitches
face pain

I still have a yucky stomach, minor joint pain (off and on) and hip pain.

My doctor says I am cured of the Lyme and the Candida and my left over symptoms are damage done by the diseases. The stomach trouble he says is to do with my thyroid. We are working on optimizing my thyroid functions. He says if I am patient I should be all well soon.

We will see! Then I will be singing from the roof tops.

Thanks! I'm not working with a doctor or taking antibiotics right now or anything for Lyme.

I just figured GI and stomach issues would be paramount if you had a severe candida problem. My other symptoms are way worse than my stomach and gut.

Is that common?

I would say yes, that is/was my experience. I did not have that bad of a stomach prior to getting the Candida diagnoses. My Doctor told me that Candida and Lyme symptoms are very similar. For me, that was the case.

I was not taking antibiotics at the time I was diagnosed with Candida. I actually think that I had Candida even before the Lyme. With the standard American diet it is NOT uncommon.

By your signature, it looks like you have had lots of antibiotics. If I were you, I would concentrate on treating the Candida for a while and see where that leaves you. You may be surprised!!!

When treating Candida, expect die off and up your detox. It is nasty getting it out of your system.

The lack of stomach symptom severity always threw me off from candida. But now I see how important and uncertain the symptoms from it can be.

I'm taking this Yeast Ease and definitely feeling worse and herxing at times. Probiotics and molybdenum seem to alleviate the symptoms significantly so I'm convinced I'm dealing with candida overgrowth. My brain fog gets real bad and my feet get super cold during the herx periods this past week. I can tell there's some die off occurring.

I'm not sure how slow to take the treatment to keep the herxing at a tolerable level. I need to go to work so hopefully I'll see some noticeable progress soon enough.

I've read molybdenum, vitamin C, and milk thistle are good for detoxing candida die off. Any other things that work besides the core detoxing methods like Epsom salt baths and dry skin brushing?

Candida is bad and so is the herxing that can go with it. I now have my son on 50 Billion probiotic at lunchtime and 100 Billion at bed time along with 2 Candex pills at bed time. We were doing 2 Candex in the morning, but he's back to school and I do abx in the morning, so it's impossible to fit it all in around food and each other.

He is clear now though. It took a couple of months, but it seems to be gone.

I'd add biotin (very high dose - but get someone to muscle test or dowse you for what dose you need specifically)... Apparently, biotin helps prevent the candida from turning into resistant spores (a form that is very much harder to kill).

Is it likely to have candida and not Lyme?

I didnt start having real noticeable candida symptoms until I started taking Borrelogen for Lyme. I'm just not sure what's going on.

I feel pretty bad at times. I'm just not sure how severe candida can be.

I find this all so confusing. I have all the symptoms that dancingbear has plus more. I always thought it was a combination of lyme and candida. I can't get rid of it. I wonder how dancingbear got rid of her candida.

I just want to add another thought to add to the complication. I have a hard time fathoming that yeast is causing my head tingling and sore neck eye twitching Etc etc . I can understand the stomach issues but a lot of the other symptoms I feel have to be from lyme.

I think you'd be surprised at what chronic candida can do what's in the bloodstream. I've read that candida can produce up to 80 toxins alone especially during die off. Some of them being neurotoxins like the ones Lyme produce.

Distinguishing between the two seems very tough with no telltale signs.

You would think candida wouldn't be as severe but when it's formed into a fungus, it can get systemic and chronic.

The only thing that throws me off is how your other symptoms can outshine the stomach and digestive issues but I guess it has no typical course.

From what I've read, you have to get the candida in balance with antifungals and probiotics and then keep it at bay with a low sugar duet. Or no sugar to be safe.

I believe I have candida because of my stomach hurting recently, bloating, gurgling, extremely cold feet and hands, and a reoccurring sinus drainage that won't go away.

I take Yeast Ease Plus for about a week now and I've been herxing. I'm trying to take it slow because it makes you feel pretty bad.

HI, I posted my protocol under a thread about yeast overgrowth posted by Mister Mike, but I cannot find it now.

Also, My doctor seems to think I am healed, but I do not believe that. I am having some symptoms return, mainly muscle and joint pain. I am not sure what is going on with me.

I do have very bad stomach issues as well as tons of other things. I had it controlled somewhat but recently I am getting preetty bad stomach pains. I was away on a vacation last month and I changed my probiotics for a month because I needes to bring with me a non refrigerated one. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

as far as I know they discontinued the candida blood tests in nys. I had one taken a few years ago when I was going to a llmd in Connecticut. I don't know the reason for it but I wish they would allow it again.
