It's not really sugar that beer contains, but maltose. Sugar is sucrose which is a disaccharide of glucose+fructose. Maltose is also a disacchardie, but is a glucose+glucose. If you haven't drank beer for awhile you may not have much of the enzyme in your stomach maltase which cleaves the bond between the 2 glucose units of maltose.
Glucose though is a direct fuel for lyme, and it can feed very easily off of it. ALso bartonella can too, and yeast.
BUT add to that you are ingesting lots of yeast when you drink beer, and some mycotoxins, and grains, wheat, gluten. Your gut has been damaged by the abx and even possibly by the anti-microbial herbs but likely to not the same extent. Plus you could already have a candida burden from treatment and having your intestinal microflora out of whack.
I'm on the bulletproof diet, and quite frankly it's making me feel bulletproof. It's a ketogenic diet and I am starving these pathogens to death. But he makes a recommendation that there is no bulletproof alcohol... Unfortuneatly. But he does have a recommendation that if you do choose to drink, alcohol as well can be laid out on a spectrum. Moderation is key, and when you aren't on many different medications.
If your gut is damaged and you really really would like to have a drink or two.
You are actually best off drinking either vodka or gin mixed with water and lemon. That's really it. Or mineral water like perrier. The more distilled the vodka the better, so something like Grey Goose would be best.
The next level or layer in drinking alcohol is white wines and champagnes (but recommended only for very special occasions). They contain less mycotoxins than reds or beers. It is preferable to have "DRY" white wines, meaning most of the sugar is not in the wine.
The worst possible choices are red wines and beers. Red wines are bad because the grape skins are kept on and have lots of mycotoxins, molds, and toxins on them. Beers are actually the worst choice because they are made from wheat, rye, barley, and have gluten, mycotoxins, mold, and yeasts plus lots of maltose which of course splits into a glucose and a glucose.
So yea better off not drinking at all... But if you must best to choose the purest vodka you can find and mix it with either mineral water, water, or lemon.
