Improvement of my daughter chest pain w/ Doxy?

As some of you know, I've posted about my daughter not feeling well for the last 3 months now. She was bite by a tick very end of June, wasn't engorged, no rash and no symptoms started right after. But come mid August she had some dizzy episodes. Then right at the beginning of September sick will belly ache for 2 weeks, nauseas, dizzy 24/7. Then mid Sept chest pains began. Then October/November episodes of muscle spasms in her hands began occasionally, along with all the other symptoms I stated.

Many different doctor appointments since September, blood test (one was a Lyme one - negative), chest xray and 48 hour holter monitor. Blood tests good, chest xray showed something but cardiologist wasn't concerned, holter monitor showed her heart rate went up a bit with each chest pain. But he said holter was normal and heart rhythm was good. The pediactric cardiologist has ordered a ultrasound of her heart just to be sure, but isn't too concerned anything will show.

Anyways, we took our daughter back to the doctor yesterday to tell her about the muscle spasms in her hand. And asked to treat for Lyme Disease. She gave us a prescription of Doxy to treat in case her symptoms are from Lyme and she started it last night.

Today my daughter has not had ANY chest pains ALL day, except for one at 4pm. She usually has like 5 in the morning, maybe 2-3 in the afternoon and in the evening/night between 4-15. A lot of the times 4 in a hour. She has had none all day except for the one at 4pm. Her dizziness is just the same as always (off balance feeling kind of dizzy)... but I'm surprised about her lack of chest pains. This is the first time in 2 1/2 months where she only had ONE chest pain in a day and her norm is between 7-30 chest pains. What gives?? Wouldn't this be WAY too soon to see improvements from Lyme disease, if she did indeed have Lyme? She has only had two doses of the Doxy, last night and this morning. She is due for the third dose in about an hour.

Seems way too soon for the meds to be doing anything though? My husband and I just look at each other like WOW! For the last 2.5 months she has been having between 7-30 chest pains per day (usually about 10/day average - can fluctuate between 7-30 though) ...started the doxy last night and has only had one chest pain in the last 24 hours. She hasn't had a day like this since she got her first chest pain 2.5 months ago.

Well, she did end up getting some more chest pains than just the one before the day was completely through. Laying in bed going to sleep at about 10pm, she got 6 more random ones. Still, I can't believe she went the whole day until 10pm with only one chest pain. I was so happy for her!

I'm hoping she's not one of the ones who will experience a herx or really severe ones, we will see. :( Hopefully just improvement.

The cardiologist said that also.. that he didn't think her chest pains were cardiac/related to the heart. But rather, musculoskeletal chest pains. This was a couple weeks ago before we started treating for Lyme. Musculoskeletal chest pains is caused by inflammation, right? Which Lyme causes... inflammation. Does anything else cause inflammation of the chest wall besides Lyme?

We are not sure if she has Lyme but venturing this path to see. Her doctor prescribed her a course of doxycycline 60mg 2x a day. We are waiting for an ultrasound on her heart plus a referral with a pediatrician. We've have ruled out a lot though, and she did have a tick bite end on June (not engorged) but developed symptoms that have not let up since beg of September. Did a Lyme test in September that was neg, but we all know how good those tests are.

Something else to keep in mind is that when the immune system is under attack, the heart can respond in the "fight or flight" mode. When I was first hit, my heart checked out perfecto, yet I would have episodes, like lying down when it would beat out of my chest like a heart attack. With abx, that resolved pretty quick for me, as well.

If left untreated, these vermin can & do hit various vascular & tissue, in all different parts of the body so it is really good you have begun treatment for your daughter. So happy to hear she is on her way to healing!

& thanks happyjo! I'm hoping she continues to improve on the doxy. These last 3 months have been hard/sad/heartbreaking to not see my daughter as herself.

If she has any symptoms at all I will be going back to my doctor for a second round of antibiotics. If the two weeks of antibiotics she has help 100%, then I will be talking to my LLND (which I see for B12 shot on Wednesday) about Samento and Banderol for her to take for a little bit. Ill ask her how long she should take it to be sure the Lyme will be gone for good.

So far still no herxing, just improvement. It has only be just over 48 hours though and I have my eye on it. I'm encouraging her to drink lots of water, plenty of sleep and fresh fruit/veggies.

I really hope we start to notice a decrease in her dizziness. Part of me wonders if the doxycycline is only helping her chest pains because of inflammation related to something else other than Lyme. But I would think it would be very rare for her to have chest pains for 2.5 months, plus dizziness all the time, and muscle spasms in her hands occasionally, due to something else. It all points to Lyme from the tick bite at the end of June. I don't see what else could be causing her chest pains (inflammation in her chest wall) and all the other symptoms.

It may be taken with or without food (u r supposed to avoid dairy, tho I did a shot of kefir with it w/o problem). It may slightly decrease the potency with food, but having one's stomach in tact & avoiding C-diff is also important.

Please, please don't wait to see if symptoms return for your daughter. Get her the full month now, don't wait. Think about it - 2 more weeks of abx or a lifetime of issues like so many of us here have had? It's really not worth the risk - the "regular" treatment that IDSA docs do just simply isn't enough. I really can't tell you how many people come here after having had the "regular" treatment and still have an active infection - but by then it's gone to chronic Lyme - which means much more intensive and extensive treatment.

For reference, when I was reinfected in 2014, it was 3 months after the bite that I finally started my herbs. I treated for 5 months to be sure that I wasn't going to relapse. I had severe adrenal fatigue, so I knew that was working against my healing as well, and I still have the severe adrenal fatigue (long story), but I have no Lyme symptoms any longer. Why? Because I was careful to treat long enough and with a protocol that I know works for me.

Believe me, no mother wishes to risk their child's future, but sometimes we do unknowingly. The extra two weeks of treatment is well worth the fight to get for her. I'm talking from the perspective of a child that had to grow up with these infections and the way they took over my life.

And please have her take it with food - the doctors and pharmacists aren't used to talking to those of us that take high doses and for extended times. The little tiny bit that the Doxy will be affected is worth saving her stomach from the damage that could be done.

Well, I would worry about the damage being done to her stomach. You can see that it's highly effective for her already. There is only a very tiny amount that the absorption of the Doxy will be affected.

And while the probiotic will help her stomach to some degree, it's for balancing out the good bacteria, not protecting it from the damage that abx can do. Do be sure to have her take the probiotics 2 hours after her abx. The abx are killing off the good bacteria, so the bad bacteria flourish, causing diarrhea, gas, pain and even cramping, and even Candida infections for some. The probiotics will replace the good bacteria killed off by the abx.
