I've lived with the muscle jerking most of my life. It has been both light and severe, to the point that I would literally 'bounce' off of whatever I was sitting/laying on - including a doctor's exam table a couple of times. Hubby and the dogs slept on the other side of the bed, and I wound up giving myself a black eye about
4 different times in my sleep - so I don't blame your wife, Lymeinthecuckoonut!
For me, a certain amount of it was caused by myelin sheath damage, but a good portion was due to the toxins and infection as well it seemed. Most all of it is gone now that I've healed though, and the remaining gets less and less the longer I'm in the "healed" category.
While I didn't use it, the Lion's Mane (it's actually a mushroom) extract has been shown scientifically to repair the myelin sheath.

I don't have a bath tub either- so I did the foot baths. It's a great way to start using the Epsom Salt/peroxide soaks as it's much gentler, although it's still best to not keep your feet in the water more than 10 minutes the first few times until you can gauge your reaction. I also bought a large oval watering tank for livestock and would fill it with hot water - by the time it filled, it was not longer hot, but just about
body temp! - and would soak in that when I thought I could tolerate a full body soak. I looked a little (okay, a LOT) like those old cowboy movies where the cowboy landed in the watering trough, but it worked!!
Dry skin brushing, oil pulling, activated charcoal, and several other detoxing routines won't usually cause any increase in symptoms, but will lower you toxin load so that symptoms will ease up.
