So I'm losing my mind. I was diagnosed (finally) back in September, and began antibiotics in October. I started with amoxicillin, then in November began doxycycline. I was doing pretty well. In the first week of December the vertigo started. My doctor said to back down a little on the antibiotics, and it would pass. After about a month nothing changed, so he told me to stay at the pace I was doing until it stopped. Flash forward and it's January whatever and I'm still spinning. Any help or suggestions?

I take meclozine for the spinning but it only does so much. I do Epsom salt baths, and I take various herbs and anti inflammatorys. I went to the ER about 2 weeks ago. They gave me an IV which helped a bit. My spinning had kind of found an even rate, but was still there. Last night it really really picked up again and I'm at my wits end.

I can totally empathize with your struggle, nerdygingergal--vertigo is one of my worst physical symptoms in battling chronic Lyme. When I first started ABX (amoxicillin and clarithromycin) I would get daily episodes of extreme vertigo/dizziness too.

I'm convinced it had to do with my toxin overload and poor detox pathways, though I couldn't tell you the exact mechanism in your situation. I found that lots of water and lying down was the only thing that helped--and if it got bad enough to provoke a panic attack, Benedryl or Dramamine worked wonders.

Autoimmunity against the vestibular system can also lead to vertigo and other ear disorders, as described here:

Ultimately, that and other menacing side effects were so intense I eventually stopped all pharmaceuticals. I still get the vertigo treating with herbal alternatives, and almost without fail around the full moon....incidentally there's one on January 23! So yesterday and today have been pretty rough for me as well.

I'm curious if anyone else experiences a vertigo flare coinciding with the full moon.

Welcome to our community! I'm just so sorry it's for this reason that you joined!

If the IV helped in the ER, you should have paperwork that says what was in it - likely just saline. How much water are you drinking? It could be that you are dehydrated.

And, as Trompeloy said, around the full moon (& new moon for some), it's actually quite common for symptoms to flare. All we can do is to plan for it and increase our detoxing.

Thank you for the welcome. I've been meaning to join, but the brain fog gets to me a lot so typing and reading isn't fun. I know they gave me saline as well as a few other things. I'll have to dig out that paperwork.

Thank you for the detox list! I use a few of them, and I'm surprised I've never heard of some of them! Looks like I have new methods to try.

I actually do feel worse around full moons. Weird. Feel better Trompeloy! 💙

Nerdygingergal, my main symptom with Lyme is feeling like I am in a rocking boat anytime I am out of bed. This has been going on for nearly 20 months. Meclizine made it worse but Diazapam has helped. See if you can get a scrip for that. I have been on antibiotics for 11 months, and the Cowden Protocol for almost a month. I am also just starting biofeedback therapy too. I am gradually getting better but at a slow rate. I have lowered the Diazapam from 4 per day (2mg) to 1 on most days. Driving sets off my vestibular the most.

Do you find that when driving, if you go through past some trees while the sun is just right, so that it creates almost a strobe effect in the car, that it really sets things off? It used to set of seizures in me, and it still bothers my head even though I've healed.

Thanks Traveler. I have been on here a long time and I have learned a lot reading posts on different subjects. There is a lot of info in the new to Lyme thread. I have told our Lyme support group here in St Louis to get on Healingwell.com.

Oh! Well, thank you!! I asked in your other thread if you would mind sharing the contact info for the support group, as I like to offer it to those that I know are in the area of a supportive groups. Also, if there is a contact person that I can list as well, it would be very helpful. I'm looking to set up (eventually) a network for people to find the kind of support you listed in your other thread.
