So earlier this month I had my first appointment with my LLMD. It was a very thorough visit including medical history spanning the last 40 years and she ordered additional testing for mold, MARCoNS and others. After an almost 4 hour appointment she believes that I was probably infected almost 30 years ago....

Anyway, I have been able to begin all of the support supplements over the last few weeks and begin treatment for candidia. On Monday I began her protocol to start hitting the Lyme with doxy. Yesterday I received a call from her office telling me to stop the doxy. I am positive for MARCoNS....

So, as of today I will be treating this for at least 30 days of Rifampin and then go back to treating the Lyme.

So frustrating that I have been to countless doctors over the years and telling them the same info that I told the LLMD, and not a single one of them did any of this testing. Ugh!!!

The medical profession is such a joke!!

Sorry for the rambling post, but I'm so frustrated. Thankful to finally have answers and a plan for treatment, but just fed up with "mainstream " medicine.

What are your symptoms of MARCoNS? Do you have sinus issues?

Well, it's good that your LLMD has found that...at your first appointment...

Yup the mainstream medicine is certainly sub-par.

I have had sinus issues on and off for years! Constant drainage and throat clearing, MANY upper respiratory infections and last year a very severe case of strep and bronchitis. At least now I know what has been causing all of it.

I'm so sorry to hear of ALL the lame treatment that caused you needless suffering, Missyran!!!

Mainstream medicine sucks - only good if you know what prescriptions you need. You'll certainly get plenty that will make you sicker.

But, it sounds like you have a sharp doctor there in the form of your LLMD! You're on the road to recovery!! Best of luck and please keep us posted!

Thanks! I totally agree that you really need to know what will work for you before you even step into a doctors office. I have learned so much from this forum! So very thankful for all of you here!

Hi Missyran1!-

I am so sorry to hear about your symptoms. I didn't even know what MARCoNS was. I had to look it up.

I hope that the Rifampin helps you, so that you will be able to treat Lyme properly.

Oh yeah, don't get me started on the medical community! :)

Marcons is (in short) a deep sinus cavity antibiotic resistant staph infection. It is tested for by a deep nasal swab (inserted about 3 inches) that is then cultured in a special lab. It will show which antibiotics it is resistant to as well as those that it is responsive to.

This infection also makes biofilms to protect itself.... wonderful right? As if I dont have enough of those already!

Anyway, the mold cultures take a longer time frame to culture so I haven't gotten those results yet.

Hi All...a little bump, I have a MARCONS Positive on top of complicated Chronic Lyme. How have things worked out for anyone out there with this issue? Any updates?

I am just diagnosed by the nose test, source Nares culture from a lab in Medford MA.

STAPH NEGATIVE - LARGE AMOUNT MARCONS Positive.

Yep, description of MARCONS is correct, Staph that resides in the deep nasal cavities, yep, lots of sinus pressure lately and nose running...etc grrr...

Look forward to anyone input ;-) I am off to continue this fight...Hang tough!

Hmm never heard of Marcons before but it does make one wonder. I have never had to many sinus issues but when having an MRI of my head it showed that I have moderate sinus disease. That coupled with constant sore throats and lymph nodes that have not gone down for almost a year it may be something to keep in mind.

How do you know its not mold in your nose? What kind of test do you have to do with your llmd to find out what causes constant sinus infections with lyme?

My MARCoNS cleared after a horrible month of a nose spray and antibiotics orally. Last culture was clean. Still treating Lyme and co's..... hang in there!

A large % of persons have staph residing in their sinus cavities. I love what Buhner says about it (below). I tested positive quite a while ago as well.

I haven't done anything different for it tho. I have a dr appt on a Monday so we'll see. I loathe nasal sprays.

I was taking Doxy, Rifampin and the nasal spray for one month straight. Next culture was clear.

Krimpet the nasal spray was ordered from a compounding pharmacy in California. It is known as BEG spray. Just fyi, keep it in the fridge. It doesn't burn as bad when it's kept cold.
