Hey All -
This was probably posted somewhere on these forums at some point, but I thought I'd share anyway. I live on Long Island, not far from Plum Island (I'm currently on the South Fork but grew up on the North Fork). There is a strong belief out here that Lyme came from the Plum Island Animal Disease Center. Right around the time when the first major cases popped up in New Lyme (which is located directly above Plum Island by the way), tick-related research was being done there. The theory is, one, or some, of the ticks escaped, hopped on a bird or deer (which swim across the Sound), and then the epidemic began. As a local, I've always heard odd things about
Plum Island through the years.
What do you all think? Half-baked conspiracy theory or the possible cause of our current epidemic of Lyme?

So sorry, I cannot for the life of me get this link to be active, but you can cut and paste.
