What's up with this floxed stuff with Cipro?

I've been on cipro for a few weeks now.. and I just realized a lot of people warn against from something called floxing. Though, I don't seem to be having any issues with cipro at all right now? I'm a young male at 22.. So maybe that's helping me?

Somebody mind explaining this to me? I don't want to cause any permanent damage.

Fluoroquinolines (Cipro, Levaquin, etc.) can have devastating side effects for some people and I was one of them. I do believe that 2 doses of Levaquin brought out my dormant Lyme disease but not before it caused horrendous harm to my neurological system as well as my peripheral system. Symptoms are very similar to Lyme's disease and its co-infections. These meds have been black-boxed for severe tendon ruptures. One may take these meds several times before the horrible side effects show up. I wouldn't give the fluoroquinolones to my worst enemy......it has ruined my life for the last 6 years. My LLMD will NOT prescribe them to his patients.

cipro is the brand name to ciproFLOXacin
levaquin is the brand name to levoFLOXacin
These are drugs of a class of antibiotics called flouroquinolones

The FLOXing name hence comes from their "generic" names and when talking about cipro - being FLOXED by cipro pretty much refers to being "poisoned" by cipro, in otherwords, some people suffer from cipro toxicity.

For some, cipro is a wonder drug, for others it results in devastating and sometimes permanent side effects. Summer16 I am SO sorry this happened to you!! =(

Summer pretty much summed it up well.
Since Cipro crosses the CNS barrier, it can cause temporary or permanent nerve damage, for example peripheral neuropathy, pain conditions, vision changes, tinnitus, insomnia, memory loss, panic attacks, all of which are symptoms of Lyme..... in addition, as summer said, it is very well known for causing tendonitis and tendon rupture, that's why it has a black box warning. It tends to affect the ankles the most, but it can occur at any major joint. So in the end, you are taking a risk if you are one of those individuals who cannot handle taking cipro. But if you can, cipro can help you in many ways. I am sorry, but this is a tough situation to be in, bc you have no idea if you will end up with any of these side effects. Also, since the side effects are very similar to Lyme symptoms, how will you know if its the cipro doing this to you or the Lyme? I have often wondered this about those with Lyme taking cipro.

Are you taking it bc of neuro lyme or bc of a coinfection?

Well that scares the heck out of me.. I seem to be doing ok though... and if it knocks it out that fast.. I think Im going to take a chance...

Ive been loading up on vitamin c and magnesium and all other sorts of stuff.. My doctor gave me a list of things to take to prevent side effects from the cipro.. or at least decrease it.

CIPRO, LEVAQUIN AND AVELOX ALL FLUOROQUINOLONES ARE THE DEADLIES ANTIBIOTICS ON THE MARKET. THEY POISON YOUR BODY. IT IS CUMMULATIVE AND SYMPTOMS ARE PERMANENT. CIPRO WASNT BLACK BOXED UNTIL AUGUST 2013. THE NEXT STEP IS TAKE THEM OFF THE MARKET.
I BELIEVE I WAS CIPRO FLOXED ALONG WITH HAVING LYME DISEASE, AUTO IMMUNE AND SMALL FIBER NEUROPATHY.
MY PAIN IS UNCONTROLLED. TENDON, JOINT AND NERVE PAIN.
I WAS OVER PRESCRIBED ALL 3 OF THE ABOVE MEDS ESPECIALLY CIPRO FOR CHRONIC URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS EVEN WHEN CULTURES WERE NEGATIVE. ALSO FOR BRONCHITIS..ALL IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.

John the symptoms are cumulative. Meaning you don't always have problems immediately. DON'T TAKE THEM. There are other meds available. I don't remember what you said you needed it for but take something else.
