Who has tried and ultimately given up on antibiotics? Need help understanding why I'm taking them.

I'm so sorry that you have a doctor that isn't very understanding. It's not a cold we are trying to treat. Everyone seems to need different things, so if anyone is at fault for a patient not healing, it's the doctors for not being able to help balance out enough of our body so we can heal.

Well, I'm sad you have Bb&Co and you have to be here but you know what I mean ;-)

I told pts for years to take yogurt, fermented foods etc *after* they finished their abx courses, but I feel differently now. I took strong abx combos for a year before the first break, and because of an equally strong probiotic program managed to avoid any GI complications for much of that time.

There was a point, however, where progress against Bb&Co plateaued and liquid stools, loss of appetite and weight, and gassy crampy pain started and finally wore me down. So I took a two month break and we went back after it again, this time on a pulsing schedule of two mo on/two off. So despite what our training tells us (abx=nuclear bomb in the gut) it's more subtle and nuanced than that.

We know every body is different and responds differently to tx, and we know we have to trust our nursing instincts. Even with scrambled brains, my nurse radar has never turned off. So I'm sure you know what you need. But IF you're getting a good kill and IF you can take the side effects, maybe you can talk the doc into a break from the abx, bridging with herbals and attacking the yeast overgrowth in the interim. This will get your gut, and 70% of your immune control, back into shape.

I do hope you're getting high density probiotics and S Boulardii especially, and you might benefit from a month or two of soil-based probiotics. Some say -and I agree- they're a step above and while spendy, are a solid rescue option for a gut that's beat up. If you stomp the yeast overgrowth down, stay on top of the pain, keep feeding the gut good pre-and-probiotics, you may find the herbal route is good enough to start winning again. If not, there's always abx there.

Think your doc can "stomach" that plan?
