What helps with night wetting (Child) and what is the cause?

Hi friends,

My child (Lyme+) has been having issues with night wetting. His Dr. gave me a homeopathic med to fix it, but it does nothing.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Or know what is the main factor causing it?

Do you mean wetting the bed? How old? And what time is bedtime?

Random times of the night. 9 years old, NOT a toddler. Bedtime is 8PM. The funny thing is he was fine when he was really little :/

Any ideas??

My middle daughter did it until she was 9 1/2. Out of the blue it stopped. Shortly after she started sleep walking and having anxiety about going to bed. So we got rid of one thing and replaced it with another. She still is not able to hold it all night - but now she is able to wake herself up and go to the bathroom.

No liquids at all after 5pm. Fill him up on those during the day.

Mandatory "try" to pee before bed.

And now, look for the stress. Is he worried about something? Is he worried about you being sick? Does he need to have a fun thing to look forward to? Those carrots in front of us give us all hope. Even if it is something small. The hope of an anticipated "thing" is joyful.

At 9 it is an accident, but there is usually an underlying "thing" that is going on. He should have control by now, but that doesn't mean that there might be a physical thing involved.

Kids are no dummies and they know more than you think. They hear stuff and are sneaky listeners and sometimes only get half the information.

He may have overheard something said about you being sick and doesn't completely understand it all?

I am just guessing. I wish I could come talk to him. I love babes so much. I was a Nanny when I retired from my pension paying job. I loved being a Nanny. I had one little boy that only would poop on the deck. A case of popsicles later and he pooped on the toilet. He was so afraid of the toilet. I had to sit and hold his hand poor lil thing.

My son is 10 and still "goes" at night. He's in an overnight. Pediatric urologist said there are enzymes your body creates that stops you from peeing at night. You can help it along by training your body to create these enzymes one medicine is called Oxybutynin the other is Desmopressin. You keep ramping them up until your child's body learns to produce them and you stop. So far my son has been on them for a few months and its not working. Urologist said he will stop when his body is ready to.

K- Anxiety is no fun. I had it until I treated for Bart. It's good that she can wake up at least.

Peteza- No, my son is the happiest child I've ever seen. Dancing and singing all day. I think that's why he's healing much faster than my daughter. He doesn't worry at all. But, i will start a mandatory stop time like you suggest. But, I'd love to live by someone who loves children like you do. That's so sweet. I hope you have a little one in your life still!

Rikky- I know this is Lyme related. Absolutely. But he barely has any symptoms. I've heard about the meds and enzymes. I was just wondering if there was something else. I'll have to speak to the Dr. again and I'll mention these two meds to see her opinion.

It doesn't faze my son, but I'd like to get it fixed.

Leilex - urinary incontinence could be from the Lyme...or bartonella if your son has that.

When my symptoms first hit me...I had to run to the bathroom sometimes...and in the morning, as soon as I woke up...I had to jump out of bed and head straight to the bathroom.

I'm thinking it's from his lyme and co's infections.

What can he do? I think the suggestions that PeteZa gave - about no fluids after a certain time, using the bathroom before bed could help.
Aw, poor guy - it must be awful for him. Hope he's not embarrassed about it.

Leilex, you are so sweet. I sure hope it helps him. It has to be hard on the family. It is like a child learning anything, like tying their shoes. There is really no hurry, it will happen when it does. Sometimes too much pressure is put on kids. I am not saying you, but other kids and teachers. I like kids being kids and having fun. Why rush them into paying bills and having a job? LOL!! He sounds adorable dancing and singing.

Girlie- I truly believe it's Lyme and Co bc he was fine when he was younger.

The thing is that he only has about 2 symptoms. So, it's not that terrible. It's just weird and I don't get it.

Yeah, I literally just said, "Go drink water, I'm cutting it out later!" haha

No, he's not embarrassed in the least over it. I guess that's good right now.

You're right. I guess I shouldn't try to rush anything. I try not to make it sound like I'm upset or disappointed with him. Because I'm not. It just stinks to see him with this struggle.
