I went to doctor and got a WB test done. (CDC)

I was positive for P66 and P41 bands. Nothing else was positive. She said my CD4 was low for my age. It was 74, I'm a healthy 20 year old male. 5'11, 174 pounds. So the doctor said that was a bit low. What do you guys and gals think?

Now i have the paper for igenex testing.

I was wondering what the difference is between the $275 Basic panal, $499 full panel done by igenex and the CDC's version of the WB test.

I am leaning towards the $275 dollar basic igenex lyme panel. But what is the difference from that and the CDC's Labcorp test?

The range is 60-360 - but 200 is what I have read it should be at.

The CDC WB doesn't test for as many strains of Lyme as Igenex.
Igenex specializes in Lyme disease testing...it's what they do.

From their website:

"IGeneX places special emphasis on quality. We strive to offer the most sensitive and specific tests available to the Lyme community. Our laboratory is regularly inspected and recertified to perform high complexity testing. To further monitor our effectiveness, we have frequent inspections by outside consultants who were former state and federal laboratory inspectors or laboratory directors."


I would just get the Igenex WB IgM and IgG - $210 for both. I think the basic panel also includes either the IFA or Elisa. and the full panel has the PCR test.

Do you know the exact details of bands the basic igenex test does? It is the IFA test by the way, not sure what that means though.

Yeah, the CD4 was almost low. I still think 74 is concerning and it shows that i'm fighting off something.

I'm sorry - I somehow read CD57!!! You meant CD4. I don't know what the range is for that....


I think the PCR is a crap shoot. They are looking for the DNA of the bacteria in that one sample of blood. If that particular sample (which is relatively small) doesn't happen to have any - then it's negative.

I would stick with the WB and save the money for treatment. $210 .

The IFA is sometimes used as a screening test in the two-tiered testing that some labs use.
I had the government testing done before the Igenex - and my IFA was negative, so WB was not done. They would only follow up with the WB if my IFA was positive.

I then tested with Igenex - WB and I was Igenex positive.

Oh i'm sorry. I did mean to say my CD57 was 74. Not CD4, my apologies.

Okay, thanks a lot. That's the test i'm going to get then.
