You will want to find an ILADS trained doctor, not one that has self-proclaimed himself/herself as a LLMD or an ID Doc (Infectious Disease Doctor), as ID docs believe Lyme is hard to catch and easy to treat, and don't believe in the reality of chronic Lyme. I think you will have to contact them personally to see if they accept insurance.

One of mine accepted insurance. One did not accept insurance, I had to pay him cash and then submit the bill to my insurance company myself to get reimbursed.

Since the doctor at the local hospital accepts insurance, I'm hoping your co-pay isn't too much for you to make the investment associated with interviewing him - it's the only way you'll find out if he truly knows how to treat Lyme.

There are no "certified" LLMD's - just those with or without proven track records. That's why referrals from other Lyme patients can be very helpful.

I've discovered through personal experience that getting a LLMD referred by ILADS doesn't necessarily mean the LLMD completely follows ILADS guidelines.

I was the one to first post about www.LymeDoc.org and it came from a very trusted source of mine. It's a reliable source of those LLMD'S that are openly advertising that they treat these infections. It is still up to the patients to check up on any LLMD found on any list though.

There are self proclaimed LLMD'S, LLMDS that have only had a one weekend of training and everything in between that and those that are so good that they are booked long ahead of a month or two. We have to sort through those available in our area, and find the one that best suits our needs.

The Bay Area and far south of it is still considered Northern California. I went Doctor by doctor on the list and most are no longer on the area. There are chiropractors on the list and acupuncturists. They may help Lyme patients but they're far from LLMD's. There is a great OBG/GYN on the list but he's not a LLMD. Many of the links go elsewhere. I'm sure the site is well intended but it's not there yet.
I know (from a non llmd's mouth) the new thing in the Bay Area is to say you treat Lyme. People are so desperate to find a dr they can get an appointment with right away that it's a great way for a dr with a small practice to enlarge his or her practice. By giving personal references we're saving people the grief of that.

The LLMD's you saw were trying to help but didn't have a lot of training. It's why you self treated.

We want to be very, VERY careful about who we classify as "real" LLMD's. Any doctor of any specialty, including those that don't hold a MD's license (TCM's, ND's, Chiro's & more) are "real" LLMD's - they go to the same seminars and get the same training as MD's. Their specialty makes no difference. The only difference? The laws in the state they practice in.

Here in Arkansas, if they don't hold a MD's license, they can't write prescriptions for abx or other prescriptions, so while a patient is limited in what types of medications they can get from one - a TCM doctor was the ONLY one that was even interested in helping me heal the first time I was in treatment. We used herbs and acupuncture, and 2 homeopathic medicines only to heal my 40 year old set of infections in only 2 years. If that doesn't qualify a doctor (of any specialty) to be considered a good LLMD, I'm a bit lost on what would. I was in treatment with a LLMD for a year and only got much, much worse.

To assume that only MD's can be "real" LLMD's leaves us with very, VERY few doctors - believe me, I have the whole list to look at, not to mention how we are short changing our own selves in not exploring the possibility that a Gastro doc might have a better take on what's going on, or even an ND. And there are many really good ND's in all parts of California that I would go to for healing. I just don't live there any more.

Now we need to get back to the OP's original question about LLMD's in Utah.
