Follow up appointment with LLMD

I had a follow up appointment today with my LLMD and we are changing protocols. I tested positive for Lyme, Bart, Babs, systemic Candida and Marcons in January. We have been treating with doxy, rifampin, tinidazole, difulcan and BEG nasal spray (nose spray from hell). Today we decided to change protocols keeping tinidazole, and difulcan while adding Zithromax, plaquenil and septra pulsed on different days of the week. Along with artemisinin 2 days before the full moon and continuing for one week after for the next 2 months for the babs. She feels that I have killed the little buggers that are sensitive to our initial approach so it's time to change things up. Of course she has cautioned me to begin these new meds slowly and to journal daily along with lots of detox. She was very impressed with my symptom journal, which I picked up the idea from someone here, sorry can't remember whose post it was on, but thanks for the idea. She only wants me to try this protocol for no longer than 4 months and then we will change again. Her belief is that to keep the buggers scrambling from different combinations and then to transition to more traditional herbal medicine. I have to say that these last few months have not been easy, nor did I expect them to be. I come to this board everyday and read posts which I have learned so much from all of you! You guys rock!!!

Hi Missy -

Sounds like you had a good appointment and sounds like you like your LLMD, which is awesome. Our protocols are very different so I don't have any specific thoughts about yours (other than that is a LOT of treatment all at once so yes, detoxing is going to be key for you.) I am also hoping to graduate toward a more herbal treatment so I think that is great that you have a timeline to work toward and an end game in mind.

Also, the definitive test results are invaluable--not great that you have all these infections (but not uncommon) but positive results are hard to come by due to such horrible tests and methodologies and really do provide peace of mind for many people who question all of this insanity or are battling with insurance companies, etc.

Thanks Pirouette! Yes, I feel that we all may have a different approach but we are all working toward a common goal! After being misdiagnosed for over 20 years I am willing to try just about anything! ;) We will see how this change goes and keep plugging along.

Yeah Missyran1, I also am a huge fan of the journal. It is invaluable for keeping track of everything. I don't want to guess when I had my last head pain. I need to know when did I start that new drug or herb. I love the journal and doctors do too. It shows that you are on top of it and they don't question you as much. My doc thought I had high blood pressure and I showed him my journal and he said "ah ha, you have nice blood pressure when you are not here! You have white coat/doctor syndrome." I was so glad when he noticed this because I drive through a huge city to get to him and it is stressful for this mountain girl.

I think your LLMD sounds delightful, in that she is mixing it up and keeping on top of things and she has future plans for you. Such positiveness.

Keep up the detox and please keep us posted. We love to hear good stuff!!

Thanks Blueberrymuffin! She really listens to my suggestions and doesn't "poo poo" anything. I really feel that we are working as a team, she knows I am doing my own research and we talk about the pros and cons of each approach. She knows that I want to transition to herbs after we go through the "mainstream " approach and she is very willing and knowledgeable about blending the two together. I will keep everyone updated!

It sounds like you have a keeper in the form of your LLMD, Missyran! I'm very happy for you but sorry you're dealing with these blasted infections.

Yes, keeping a journal is a vital tool for achieving wellness and I'm glad your LLMD recognizes the benefit.

Initially, I was hesitant to suggest things to my LLND. I would answer his questions, and he would change my protocol according to what he thought was best.
But, more and more, I am discussing what I think could help my healing...and asking to try protocols that I have researched...and you know what? He's perfectly fine with that...I feel so much better now that I have more input to my treatment.
