I have recently noticed that my fingertips are wrinkled, they look like I have been in the water too long. They are like this all the time, I drink a lot of water and added electrolytes so it is not likely dehydration. Any ideas what else could be causing this?

acs73 if you go to the search box under the Join HealingWell and put lyme-wrinkles you should find many threads about this.

I have those and I also have those sleep lines all over my body that take more than longer to go away when I first get up.

I think some of mine is age, some is the deficiency in collagen and most is not enough water. I notice the lines upon waking up are more related to the lack of enough water the day before.

Some days I am super busy and I honestly do not do enough water. Time just gets away when I am very busy.

acs73 - I have those lines...started out on just the fingertips - but now they run the length of my fingers.

Mine actually run the length of my fingers into my palms. I supplement with collagen and drink bone broth so I don't think that is the issue.

I wonder if it's a nervous system issue. My nervous system has really been affected by these infections...and it's worse on my left hand...and I do have bad nerve 'stuff' on that side.

I think lyme affect the angio-renin system of the kidneys...the sodium channels get messed up and i cant hold water i up the salt intske but some take desprossin to counter...try sea salt in water and lots of h20...i have to get iv to feel hydrated last for like an hr...

I get the wrinkles in fingertips and get extreme thirst when I notice them, but without a dry mouth.

Pink salt helps. The thirst is the worst before bed and taking a few pinches of the salt helps the thirst and the wrinkles.

Maybe it's the minerals in the salt that helps???

The first question I ask anyone who has fingernail issues is "Do you eat eggs?"

I just bought some electrolytes made with Sea Salt and no sugar and no sweeteners, maybe that will help.

Wow I can't believe this post! I have had that too since all my symptoms started. I thought it was just me. I know they aren't wrinkles because I'm still in my twenties. I googled it but couldn't find anything.

My sodium level on my cbc a week ago was 140 mmol/L. My creatinine is a touch high, it has gone done a little from my blood work in late March and my eGFR has gone back to normal after it was low in my march Bloodwork.

I also have really dry skin on my hands, cracking and slightly peeling, no amount of lotion or coconut oil seems to help. I am wondering if this is related to the wrinkling in my fingers/hands.

It's likely because Lyme destroys collagen. There is a LOT of information on this once you start looking for collagen, Lyme online, here are a few:

Thanks for the info Traveler. I recently started adding collagen daily and I am slowly increasing the amount I take. I also add a little bone broth to everything I can, so hopefully I can get boost my collagen to a more normal level. I also have Brucella and no one seems to know what kind of weird effects it can have when combined with Lyme and other Cos.

It's a process for healing from any combination of these infections, as they all seem to get more complicated the more co-infections one has. A bit of good news though, when I was diagnosed by my LLMD (way back when), he told me I almost certainly had every tick-borne infection due to my symptoms, symptom severity, and exposure level - yet I managed to heal from them all from my best estimation. Without really good testing, not only do we not know for sure what all we may have at times, but we also can't verify that we have completely healed, except by going by symptom resolution. And, when I got reinfected it started throwing all kinds of doubt in my mind about 'did I really heal?' - but I have to assume so, since I know that I was reinfected.

It's actually not just Lyme that destroys collagen but bartonella as well. Dr.M has said it deposits on collagen and start living there. The immune system then attacks the tissues and destroys the collagen. So Bart also liked collagen.

I also have another symptom. If I look at my finger print area of my finger tip, sometimes, but not all the time it will be red here. This comes and goes but I think it's inflammation. That to me is Bart, the blood flow in the fingertips is actually all the way out and considered an extremity. So I think that is what happens with the finger tips. It is the collagen that is destroyed and makes lines.

I tried supplementing lots of collagen for a few days and it seemed to get a bit better. I think the only way to fix this is to address both Lyme and Bart. (In my mind the finger lines is from Bart by the way, more so than Lyme)... And after the infections are dealt with you will have to supplement lots of collagen protein into your diet. You can even mix it in your coffee in the morning.

Thank you for the information Traveler, and it is encouraging to hear that you have recovered from your TBDs. Some days I feel that I am never going to get better and live a normal life again. And the road to recovery can get pretty lonely when everyone thinks you look ok but has no idea how painful it can be just to walk across the room. Thanks your your support and encouragement.

Lyme Pickle, if it looks somewhat similar to any of these pictures, it could be livedo, which can happen in any part of the body. /goo.gl/giRyzL

I was always amazed at how few doctors (across the country) that had no clue what livedo looked like when I showed them, nor did that have any clue what it was or what to do about it. It's generally caused by Bart in tick-borne infections though.


Acs, Thank you! The struggle is VERY real to keep hope up that we will heal, but hang on to it! It does happen, although it's tricky to navigate our pathway sometimes. We are at the cutting edge of science, and so we have to figure out how to heal without the benefit of a lot of studies and clinical trials being done to understand what we are truly up against and the best ways to stop the infections. But don't ever believe that no one ever heals, or that you won't. Just keep on putting one foot in front of the other, because if you are always headed towards healing your body, life will be better!

There's a ton of truth to the statement "they don't get it, until they get it" - and how could they? It's hard to believe for ourselves at times! Keep those that wish to support you close, and keep everyone else at arm's distance!

I have livedo reticularis but mine only shows up when I am exposed to the cold. Once I bundle up or turn up the heat, mine goes away.

And the funny part is I would much rather be cold than hot. Cold does not bother me, but it does make my skin look funny.

Traveler thanks for that! I did not know anything about this "livedo" . I wonder if the wrinkled fingertips and livedo in the same part of my finger are related. I think they are both Bart.

I have it only on my finger tips... And it comes and goes... Actually a little worse with abx.

I also got some weird rashes like that on my feet.

I just looked at the link - Traveler posted...and the palms of my hands (worse on my left) look similar to some of the photos.


I'm hoping with treatment it goes away?
