Sorry I got to this late - but in general, antibiotics and diflucan are fine EXCEPT with the erythromycin class,

That being said, no, you should not take zithromax, erythromycin, or biaxin together with Diflucan. It is not recommended. So please bear that in mind next time!! You are probably fine, but it is not worth the risk to your heart, even if there is a very low percent chance that anything can happen.

Antibiotics are fine with cough medications, but if you are taking a cough medicine that has sudafed or anything that is used for stuffiness, then it could definitely cause your heart to race or to have palpitations. If you have thyroid issues, please check with your Dr before taking any Over the counter meds!!

I have recommended D Mannose to several people on this board with vaginal issues, and it has worked like a charm. It worked for me. D Mannose binds to anything that doesn't belong in the UT and flushes it out so to speak.

Definitely consider it if you are still having issues - any questions, please do ask!

As a topical which I needed badly because mine had spread to my inner thighs, my husband gave me his jar of all natural shea butter with lemongrass in it - it smelled awful, but I slathered it on and by morning it was gone! I could not believe it. Of course he said "I told you so" Just amazing because I was at my wits end with that. He has been using it to keep fungus from his toenails at bay - who knew it would work in private area too!

A couple more things -

If your yeast infection is not responding to Diflucan (Fluconazole) try a different systemic anti fungal - Ketoconazole. Nystatin is a local anti fungal so theoretically, it doesn't leave the gut. I bet that if you talked with a compounding pharmacist who sells PURE Nystatin powder, they might help you with using it with a douche and or added to a cream base for a topical.

AND - I totally wanted to support the douche idea someone shared - if done carefully would be very effective. And in a pinch, I literally scoop out what I can reach with my finger. It's the yeast leaving the vaginal area and impacting the skin around the opening that causes the itching--so if you can keep it off the outer opening and skin until you can get an Rx or otherwise, you'll be more comfortable.

I also wanted to share a story... Once I started lyme & co, my vaginal yeast infections are just DIFFERENT now. I used to get the typical and VERY frequently but I've read that yeast can turn into different forms. I think the form I get now is more like an invisible biofilm and it responds differently to antifungals now.

I had worked up a good vaginal yeast overgrowth from drinking a couple glasses of wine. I inserted a little Monistat capsule (kind of like a suppository) and OMG. SHEARING PAIN. I hopped in a bath so fast to wash it off. I just don't mess w/ yeast/fungal overgrowth anymore--that stuff is crazy.

P - Your experience was similar to mine with monistat. I will never use it again. A few months before I got really sick, I had a abnormal pap (not HPV - tested twice) and then a week later developed a yeast infection. I took 1 diflucan and it was better but not all the way gone. So I went to the pharmacy and got Monistat 1. It was a god awful burning pain. I think I went into shock! I tried to wipe most of it off but did not get into the bath. I wish I would have. The next morning the symptoms of yeast were gone but it felt like I had put icy/hot down there. Nerve damage? Then as the day progressed I developed symptoms of cystitis that I still deal with off and on. Never had it prior to this experience. Then a month later, bingo, all my neurological crap started. I think this triggered something for me.

P. - did it get worse just after a "one time" of having 2 glasses of wine? And, yes I am still amazed at how well that jar of shea butter and lemongrass worked! I checked the ingredients and it contains: shea butter, lemongrass, coconut oil and palm tree wax extract. That's it. Who knew it could work wonders! It just smells so bad, though - really strong.

Wow, that sounds awful. I'm going to throw a crazy idea out there but I've been thinking it for awhile. Maybe it's not my idea after all and I read it somewhere. ;)

Like I mentioned, the yeast/fungus morphs into other forms and maybe it hasn't been proved yet but I think it acts like a biofilm in this "other" form. I have a tendency towards y/f overgrowth but it's not the typical symptoms.

- I have had what looks like dry flakey skin around my belly button. I didn't think anything of it until I read a story about a woman who had the same symptom, they cultured it as y/f overgrowth and it was linked to GI cancer... After dealing with the initial panic because I know y/f has strong links to cancer (and I don't mention this often because I don't ever want to spook anyone here but that is another reason why you don't want to mess around w/ a y/f issue), I don't think I have cancer but I'm CERTAIN it's y/f overgrowth and I think it's a fungal film.

- I have had the vaginal itching w/out seeing any discharge so I think this is the "other" form.

- I have also had y/f discharge from my nipples. It is invisible but when it dies it flakes off.

- this has also happened to my face and scalp around the hairline, chest and upper arms a long time ago when I was battling the chronic sinusitis and bronchitis for 13 months with various rounds of abx (when all along it was actually a fungal overgrowth - yay MDs!). All of those sx were a result of the fungus from my chest/head growing out of my nose/mouth. It kinda sounds freakish and horrifying.

So - back to my point. Well, we know that biofilms are like a colony of organisms that communicate with each other. Maybe they do that through electrical charges or synapses or tiny little radios - who knows.

And I forget what the scientific terminology is but we know that they communicate. So it sounds entirely plausible that killing/agitating (whatever we did w/ the Monistat) in one area--a growth in the vaginal area-- that could very well be connected with a growth in, say, your urethra and maybe it caused some sort of uprising in the area the Monistat didn't reach. You'd have to have a pretty serious overgrowth but I think it's probably more possible than not.

I'm also wondering if maybe you triggered your immune response to freak out in some way and start agitating the nerves in that area.

I think the wine trigger happened right as my chronic sinusitis and bronchitis started to get really bad. I didn't make ANY connections at the time b/c MDs kept telling me the sinusitis/bronchitis were bacterial infections and kept giving me abx.

Since dealing with that chronic y/f overgrowth w/ serious antifungals and all the other pieces of the regimen that we always talk about, I've only had very minor issues. And I don't react that way to wine - at least not noticeably. But I also rarely ever drink it anymore (for obvious reasons).

But when I started the vanco abx about 1 month ago the nipple discharge started up again. This happens a lot to nursing moms, so there is a lot of info online about it that helped me figure out what was going on. But that is now my vulnerable area (no more vaginal y/f overgrowth for awhile now) and made me realize that I needed to increase anti fungal protocol.

Boric acid. Fill into vegetable capsules and insert as high up the vaginally canal. Before you go to bed for 2 weeks.

oh yes!! i forgot about that one!! i used to compound those when i worked at a compounding pharmacy a few years back! good mention, ela!!

p - i am well aware of the link btwn candida and cancer, definitely very scary.
