Possible Lyme Disease, What to do?

I was recently bitten by a deer tick about 2 weeks ago and removed it. The day after the bite I started getting muscle aches and just didn't feel good. I felt like I was coming down with a cold or something. At the time I just figured that's what it was. I didnt' even think about the possibility of the tick bite causing it. I didn't get any cold symptoms, but I've been pretty badly fatigued at times and I've had a foggy-headedness that makes it difficult to concentrate at times. Several times I've tried to exert myself and found that I still have weakness and exertion makes me really tired. I have also had a few minor aches in my knees and the area around the ball of my foot has randomly hurt lately. Not sure if that's related. I didn't get the bullseye rash like alot of people get. Just a small bump. I also didn't get a fever. A few days ago i went to the doctor because of the fatigue and he said he'd be shocked if it were lyme disease because he thinks lyme disease is rare in KY and did blood tests. Since then I've done more research on lyme disease and am taking it more seriously as a possible option now. I just want to go to a doctor with a true knowledge of the disease and get some antibiotics as a precaution if nothing else. I want to catch this early if that's what it really is, or if its another tick-borne illness. What should I do?

Oh you are so lucky you are so informed at this early stage. I think many of us envy that because we went too long with symptoms before putting two and two together.

What to do now? First read our post New To Lyme? ... Start Here! Tons of information in there, including where to find a doctor.

If I was recently bit, I would start taking vitamins, eating healthy good food and drinking lots of lemon water all day long.

You are ill and need to help yourself get well.

Find a lyme literate medical doctor is the next step. If you cannot find one to treat you as soon as you would like there are herbs you can take that might be beneficial to start taking and if you are into that we can help you there.

Be picky about what you read on the internet. There are a lot of "this-will-cure-lyme" schemes out there. Hard to know what is true and what is not. Come here and ask. This community has been around for awhile and you will find that most everything has passed through these posts.

Stay as stress free as possible. Hard to do!! Lyme loves stress and seems to thrive on it. Be nice to yourself and patient and kind.

Sleep if you are tired. I personally think a lot of healing goes on when we are sleeping. Naps are not against the law.

Now I know you have a huge amount of questions and that is what we are here for.

Welcome to our group and ask away. I certainly filled up pages when I was new.

So sorry for the reason you're here but, glad you found us.

I, too, didn't have the rash after my tick bite. I found the tiny nymph deer tick when I decided to investigate this tiny red pimple I found on my abdomen.

I knew enough to ask my GP to put me on an antibiotic but I hadn't learned enough to know that she didn't prescribe a high enough dose for a long enough time.

Lyme is in every single state of the US. Ticks don't stop at borders and birds are popular modes of transportation for ticks. The white-footed mouse is the primary vector for Lyme. I'm sure you have both of those types of animals in KY.

PeteZa gave you some great suggestions to help yourself right now but you really need to be seen by a doctor who recognizes Lyme and knows how to treat it.

Thanks a lot for the info. I just posted to try and find a doctor. I live in Northern KY just south of Cincinnati. I was having trouble finding a good option in Kentucky. I don't understand why they believe lyme disease isn't in KY if deer ticks are in KY. I also ordered some liquid banderol and samento. Has anyone had any success with those?

I did not know the answer to this so I went to a man that I trust and admire - Stephen Harrod Buhner. Here is what he said about it.

He has continued to do research since his writing of that article and he may have changed his mind, but I have found no reference to Banderol in his latest book Healing Lyme, Second Edition.

It seems common sense .... doesn't it? I guess they think that all the animals carrying ticks with lyme (birds, mice, deer....) are stopped at the State border...the same way they are stopped at the U.S./Canada border.

Maybe we need to build a wall...a really high wall....between the states/countries. lol

But, that wouldn't stop the birdies now would it?

Thanks to the info from this forum I was able to find a good lyme literate doctor that today that gave me a 4 week dosage of antibiotic with a refill. Thanks!

Now, I will bet you that LLMD forgot to tell you about detoxing.

You are going to be killing bugs and you want to give them a clean highway out of your body. That is how I envision detoxing.

Take the samento and banderol with it and the Andrographis maybe flagyl ..you want to make sure you get this ...

The LLMD I went to did mention detoxing briefly, but she didn't go into much detail she said since I am an acute patient and not a chronic patient. I'm thinking of using the Cowden protocol and Buhner protocol as a 2nd line of defense as well. Any opinions/experience with these? Would it be ok to do these while taking antibiotics?

I know that Buhner's protocol is very okay to take with antibiotics.
Glad there was a mention of detoxing.

I would also suggest a journal. It is extremely helpful to write down meds, how you feel, symptoms, etc. It gives you a great reference point and you don't have to remember when did you last take such and such.

Eating as healthy as you can afford.

Get a nice probiotic with at least 50 billion live cultures. You probably will find the "good" stuff in the refrigeration section of your health food store.

Keep your bowels regular.

As for detoxing, it is for acute and for chronic. Dead lyme bugs in you need to come out. You want a river running nice and smoothly in you, not a stagnant pond growing bad stuff from dead things.

Hope your visit went well with the LLMD.

It went well. The one I visited only specializes in Lyme disease and in fact she now only sees Lyme patients. She gave a pretty in-depth explanation what Lyme does to your body, how it disguises itself, and how your body attempts to fight it.

I was reading about detoxing, which methods do you like best? I've been drinking a lot of lemon water for now. I eat pretty healthy for the most part, and I have been taking a good probiotic the past year or so.

Holy smokes I posted a huge reply and it disappeared. I so dislike it when that happens. So here is take 2!

I will make it simple this time by copy and paste.

I do real parsley. I put it in our food or just a sprig on the dinner plate to eat after.
Cilantro is real in our house too. I love the taste of it. In eggs, or dips or in a sauce over the fish. I try not to ever cook it, I want the real deal.
Another real thing is greated tumeric. It can make a orange mess on a cutting board but it is yummy. Also great on eggs. It is like ginger (a root) but chops better, not as stringy. It will stain a counter so wipe it up quick.
I love Braggs Apple Cider vinegar drinks. I think the Concord Grape is my latest fav. That's 8 fluid ounces and I love GT Millennium kombucha - I am very hooked on Multi-Green and that's 8 fluid ounces.
I eat a lot of garlic. I love it.
I love my lemon water!!
I dry brush and cold rinse at the end of the shower.
I do a swig of benadryl some nights. Y'all know I do childrens liquid.
