Treating Bartonella with Bactrim & Biaxin

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone had success with bartonella using biaxin (clarithromycin) and bactrim? Just picked up my new scripts. Anything I should look out for while on bactrim? I know it can cause allergic reactions fairly easily.

Also, I'm currently on doxy + biaxin. When I switch to the new drug, should I wait a day or two or just start bactrim the day after I stop doxy?

I did the same thing - was on doxy and zithromax (same drug class as biaxin), and i switched from doxy to bactrim. I waited 2 days just to give my system a rest, not for any other reason. It will not negatively affect your treatment, since you are still on the biaxin, but it's up to you. and it also doesn't hurt to take a "drug holiday" for a day or two, just be prepared to herx - if you do herx, that is.

I took this drug combo for lyme and bartonella, so it is a good choice! I just prefer zithromax bc biaxin kills my stomach, no matter what I eat with it. I also hate the aftertaste, but if it works for you, stick with it!!

hard for me to say - the doxy dose got too toxic for me and it was causing peripheral neuropathy. Couldn't handle doxy with the sun - so I had to switch. The bactrim and zithromax worked well for me as that is how I ended my treatment (along with herbs and such).

i added bactrim to my zithromax/mepron mix and about 5 days in my eyes really dried out and were very itchy and i just couldn't do anything but rub them which causes me to look like i had 90 year baggy eyes. i clearly didn't react well to sulfa drugs.

i'm actively treating bart since mid-jan was on riafmpin/biaxin then after a month switched the biaxin out for doxy. i've been on doxy for 6 weeks and my symptoms are equal if not worse. i'm hoping that means its working but who the heck knows. looking back i switched out biaxin too quickly because i was used to getting improvements fairly quickly when i changed regimens but i haven't been actively treating bart and i think its a whole different animal.

I was on biaxin for a year ( then off for a year ) and just back on it, and have no problem with SJS. It is rare. Biaxin is one of the best with rifampin for bartonella for me. I killed almost all of it off except some stragglers. Hence round 2! I have been on doxy it did nothing to my bartonella. Almost like it laughed at it! Ugh.
