A few Buhner questions

Hi there,

I'm about to start treating Bartonella with some of his herbs. I have just received Houttuynia, Japanese Knotweed, and Sida Acuta. I have a few questions for anyone who is willing to help answer:

- I've noticed these herbs from Woodland Essence contain some alcohol. I am on some heavy antibiotics: biaxin, bactrim ds, malarone, plaquenil, nystatin. Are these still OK to take?
- Which one is best to start first? How much should I take?
- OK to take along with BAB-2 and Cognease Detox (Beyond Balance)
- When is the best time to take them?
- Do I put drops in water, or just in a spoon?

I have read that the amount of alcohol in a regular dose of tincture is equal to an overly ripe banana.
It should be okay to take with your antibiotics.

But, just in case, for awhile I was putting my tinctures in very warm water and letting them sit for 10 minutes...was thinking that some of the alcohol would dissipate.

I stopped doing that.

I would start with Japanese Knotweed - because of it's benefits - it is anti-inflammatory, penetrates the blood brain barrier, antibacterial, immunomodulator,

Start off with one drop....if okay after a few days...than do one drop twice a day...after few days, one drop three times daily.
When you get the JK in at low dose (maybe 2 drops 3X daily) - then add in the next one.

I usually take mine before my meals.

I put the drops in a 1/4 cup of water. I put all my Buhner tinctures in together, and down the hatch.

I don't know about Bab-2 and Cognease Detox- I will defer to to others on that question.

First of all, I would encourage you add the drops to a small glass, and then add some water. You want a small amount so you can 'chug' it. Some choose to use pomegranate juice to help cover the taste of the herbs.

Most start with the Japanese Knotweed first. Because you are already doing several other things, I would suggest that you start off with only one drop the first day, a drop in the am and a drop in the pm the 3rd day and then around the 6th day, increase again to two drops in the am, wait another 3 or 4 days and increase the pm dose to 2 drops and so on. It's the long way of doing it, but there are no surprise, serious herxes usually that way. It's really hard to have to stop and start all over because you jumped up to too high of a dose too soon, or added in too many things and you aren't sure what made you herx.

You should be able to take all those things the same day - but do double check about the Bab-2. I don't know enough about it. Buhner says that his core protocol is safe to use with abx though: [url]http://buhnerhealinglyme.com/herbs/stephania-and-antibiotics/ [url]

I believe Buhner says that a person can take them either before or after a meal, so it's a matter of working them in, not of the specific timing - but I could be wrong on this.

The only tinctures that I know that need to be taken separately are Samento (TOA free Cat's Claw) and Banderol. Cowden says to take them 15 minutes or so apart if I recall correctly. I also do as Girlie said, and mix them all together, and I also add ACV and GSE.

Thanks for the responses. My LLMD is pretty adamant on separating BAB-2 and cognease detox. I think I'll play it safe and also separate them from Buhner herbs. I'll start the Japanese Knotweed first as you guys have mentioned, and I'll start slow. Thanks!!

I take pomegranate juice with my tinctures because Buhner says it enhances the actions of the herbs (it's a synergist).

He recommends pomegranate juice in his latest Bartonella protocol.

Hey Kirky - sounds like you have a good Dr. - introducing one drug at a time...seems simple, doesn't it...but many don't do that.

I'm assuming you aren't in Western Canada - where there are several LLND's (who can prescribe abx).

I'm in Canada (Ontario) :). I too seek help south of the border, and I bet we are seeing the same LLMD. Glad your fog has cleared, though that has never been an issue with me.

I was undiagnosed for ~one year as well. I was on doxy up until four days ago, when I was switched to Bactrim DS because 1) It's more effective for bartonella (I'm getting the classic bart scratches on my body) and 2) It's summer and I don't want to be on doxy.

Since starting the Bactrim I have developed pretty bad lower back pain, which I am assuming (hoping) is just a herx. My primary symptoms though, which are limb pain, twitching, and a few others have decreased quite a bit over the last few months. I've been in treatment for ~three months. Feel free to shoot me an email and we can see if we have the same LLMD and keep in touch!

saiyaex first I must apologize for not ready the responses. I just got back in town and am catching up and boy is there a lot to catch up on.

I do Buhner and Beyond Balance. When I began I did Buhner herbs in a glass of water and chugged it and then I did the Tox Ease GL in a little glass of water and chugged it. Then I did my MC-BB-1 in a glass of water and chugged it. I have graduated to MC-BB-2 since September and I still do the same thing.

Sometimes I forget to do them before I eat so I do them after I eat. I have not found either way to be any different than the other.

I do wish I was out on the coast right now for more then just an LLND. I love BC, the islands, the tress, the smell of the ocean, oh and all those coffee shops on every corner in van. I dream of living along the sunshine coast for my retirement, and I would NOT buy a snow shovel not even when it snows.

We used to camp on the beach in Tofino...literally on the beach...my father drove our car on the beach and set up camp. That was many, many years ago...

I bet you have beautiful wedding photos.
My husband's nephew was married at the Black Rock Resort in Uclulet a couple years ago.

My husband and I went to Hawaii for our wedding - neither of us were interested in the typical wedding. Both sets of parents and us in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel gardens.

We didn't see much in Uclulet - just the Black Rock Resort...not nice beaches there...from what I saw.

I have read here that most people are drinking herbal drops down with water. The LLND I'm seeing told me to put the drops under my tongue. I'm not sure why she suggested to do this. I do end up drinking a glass of water soon after anyways and washing them down.

Naturopaths do a lot of homeopathics and those are always done under the tongue for easy quick absorption. As for the tinctures they can taste really horrible and I think that is why the water. I mix about 9 herbs in a glass of water. I cannot imagine doing 9 under my tongue - yuckie tasting. It is bad enough in the water.

Start with Japanese knot weed. JK is one of those herbs anyone can/should take even if they don't have an infection. It has resveratrol which is beneficial for anyone. Jk is more like a vitamin for over health, including immune health than a direct antimicrobial.
