Anyone here used fluconazole before?

Fluconazole is part of a new protocol I'm going to be trying soon. I've had candida for a while now, likely 2-3 years. Any idea what to expect from this drug? Also has anyone heard of using antibiotics along with a small dose of fluconazole?

I'm a little nervous to take it but if it can help get rid of some candida I'm sure it may help too.

I take Nystatin 500,000U tablets. I take 4 in the morning and 4 in the evening (total =8 tablets a day). Nystatin is used for overgrowth of Candida in the GI (gut).

I also take Fluconazole (Diflucan) 200 mg tablet. I only take Fluconazole (1 tablet) on Sunday. I don't take any Nystatin on this day. Fluconazole is used to treat systemic Candida.

I have heard of some people herxing on these medications. Make sure that you are detoxing. There are a lot of great ways to detox in the "New to Lyme?... Start here!" thread at the top of this forum.

I am also taking oral antibiotics daily for Lyme and co-infections.

I take my antibiotics and then wait 30-45 minutes to take my Candida meds.

Fluconazole can be hard on your liver.

when you have other issues, its a great idea to address them, it makes it easier to fight lyme. if you only fight lyme, you will struggle to get better. you are on the right track!!

I have heard that fluconazole is also good for lyme!

Mine tried to give me ketoconzole. ...which has black box for adrenals and liver ...youay want to protect your liver with milk thistle ala ect and or pulse ..are you in sw?

Yes i herxed very badly on fluconazole, but u know... back then people thought this is from candida only, so the treatment was short and in bursts, like for candida and was given me profilactically after the antibiotics, so i get my candida under control. But it made me herx really badly.

Now based on the latest Zhang studies it's clear fluconazole it's really good antipersister drug against Borrelia.

And the really good news about fluconazole is it has 100% BBB penetration, basically there is no barrier in fluconazole getting to your brain in maximum concentration. So that can make a huge difference in terms of neurolyme.

But please be very careful with your liver, i would test my liver enzymes weekly if i were u. Fluconazole is really rough on the liver.

weekly in the beginning then every 2/3 weeks, if you see your liver can handle it, but the first 2 weeks are critical because that's when you either put your liver out of business or if it can handle it, then it will handle it on longer term. depends on how good your liver is and your general health.

I have just finished two month tx. I have never had so much pain in my life. The first two and a half weeks I slept 17 hours a day and was crippled. I'd nevr been sure of what a Herx was. How do you know until you know, right? The candida die off was brutalizing.

My Lyme symptoms are worse by a threshold of two, I'd guess. I can barely hold my head up from neck pain or bend my knees (ie the arthritis is much, much worse). Adding insult to injury my previous to Lyme dx of FMS is off the chart. I feel like I am filled with toxic poison.

I will be seeing my Lyme MD, who much to my chagrin is on holiday, on May 25.

This protocol was prescribed after a 2.5 year Doxy approach, which periodically seemed to work.

I have also used banderol, samento, Green Dragon LB tonic, curcumin, ad infititum.

Some days I feel so defeated but I do have IMMENSE gratitude for when the good days show up. There are fewer of them of late though...

You mentioned 2.5 years of Doxy. Was this under the LLMD's care?
If so, were you on a second antibiotic with it?
That is a long time to be on Doxy.
