Flagyl and left sided abdominal pain

My LLMD had me drop ceftin and start Flagyl (to go after the 'cyst' form of the bacteria) when I saw him on May 5th. I started the flagyl that night and by Saturday I was feeling generally ill and thought 'the flagyl must be working'. By Sunday I was having moderate constant pain in my LUQ (left upper quadrant). By Sunday night it was so bad I stopped the flagyl. I thought there was the REMOTE possibility I was constipated and aggressively attacked the pain from that angle with good 'results' but no relief from the pain.

By Monday I was very sick and took more laxatives 'just in case' it was constipation as I didn't want to go the MD and be told that was the problem. Tuesday morning I saw my primary MD (for a scheduled follow-up) who did an abdominal Xray which showed that I was NOT constipated even though I still had the pain. My LLMD said to hold the flagyl for a week and retry it. My primary said to wait and see if the pain was better in a couple days "as not many people can tolerate flagyl".

Well tonight will be one week since stopping flagyl and the LUQ pain is finally 95% resolved. My question is should I "TRY" again or just abandon this med? I wonder if it was pancreatitis or colitis...I didn't get any labs done. Thanks for your input. =)

I started flagyl 3 days ago. 1st day was a breeze then last night I had extreme pain in organs, extreme anxiety, heart palpitations it was really the worst time I'd had on any antibiotic ever. Today I feel sicker then ever but less in pain in abdomen, thankfully that was my last dose for another 3 weeks but I will try it when I'm due next and if it's that bad again ask to swap to tinadazole which apparently is better tolerated?
i was pre warned to expert the worst from that antibiotic with chronic Lyme. Are you having reg bloods done? Mine are scheduled the day after my doses of flagyl so seeing the results of those will also help put my mind at rest too.

So Lymie Jo, you take only 1 flagyl tab every three weeks? I could maybe manage that....

Yes I take 2 X 500mg a day two days a month. Any more than that then believe me I would not take it!
I agree with swapping for tinadazole that was the other option for me. I have tried it before it also brought a lot of pain but not on the flagyl scale.
