Nausea with herbs

Hello...my llmd started me on herbs and probiotics 1 week ago. Three days ago I got up to the 30 drops of each twice daily. Since then I have been experiencing headaches (unusual for me) and nausea. Sometimes my arms burn. Anyone else experience this? I'm supposed to start doxy next week.

Three days to get up to 30 drops twice daily of each herb...no wonder you feel like crap.

Sounds like you're having a herx.

Don't mean to nag, but you need to detox.

You should have started with one herb...very low dose - a drop...then a couple drops...then added in the second herb...one drop...then a couple drops...then added in the third herb...etc.

After all in at very low dose...then up one slowly...small increments....then the next one...etc.

If you're starting doxy next week...I suggest you back down on your herbals...that will just be too much...sorry!

Wow, I so agree with Girlie. You went up way too fast. 3 days to get to 30 drops is too much to ask your body to handle.

I know exactly why you did this - because I did it with my first herb because I was so impatient. I wanted to be well NOW!

Just go back down to about 10 drops and see how it goes or you can even start all over.

Remember that many drugs are made from herbs. Herbs are not these little innocuous plants. They can be even more potent than pills.

Herbs are medicine and should be treated like they are. Caution when taking. I have had a reaction with just one drop of an herb. So please be careful and try and go "Low and Slow" - meaning start out low and move up slowly.

Hi mom -

Totally agree w/ Girlie & PeteZa... there is an important process to treatment that will be more beneficial to your management of treatment. If you go too fast with too much at too high doses, you can overwhelm the body and block the body's ability to process the treatment. Implementing one component at a time helps you understand if there is an issue with that component. Doing too much at once can be confusing. I'd talk w/ your LLMD about their suggestions.

But while uncomfortable, the information you received from these first couple of steps are good--it tells you to slow down. Might confirm that the treatment is hitting something, might also indicate other issues are present.

Also -
it's possible that you could be responding to the alcohol most tinctures come with--headaches and nausea can be connected with a yeast/fungal overgrowth response OR die off (that can be confusing). Sometimes the issue is pre-existing and we don't know it, sometimes a y/f overgrowth is part of the lyme infection (ticks often carry more infections than just lyme, including other coinfections and fungus, viruses.) And sometimes y/f overgrowth can be a response to treatment. Do you currently have any yeast/fungal issues?

Thank you for the replies! My dr told me to start with two drops first day then 4 drops second day and continue to double each day until I got to 30 so by day 5 I was on 30 drops twice daily. They warned I may feel worse and could back down. Just didn't know if this was something worth suffering through and would maybe get better. I think I'll follow your advice and drop down some. Thank you!

I made a lot of mistakes too! I was on Byron White tinctures for lyme, babesia and bartonella and had extreme reactions - absolutely no reactions to the lyme tincture (at 30 drops) and severe reactions to the babesia tincture (at 5 drops) and 5 drops of the bart tincture sent me to the ER.

Also, I was trying to switch from Rx antivirals to Beyond Balance IMN-V-II and carelessly started with 10 drops... BAM. I was out of commission for an entire month... Could barely get out of bed to feed myself. Took forever to recover.

I think the reactions signal that your body isn't detoxing effectively enough and this can compound day after day. So it's very important to step back, reduce, increase detox, then try increasing the amount again. I found that I had to train my body to detox effectively, once I learned about it. I had no idea what I was doing at first.

Hey all,

I agree-I have come to realize that herbs are at Least as potent as any abx. I am on the Dr.Zhang Chinese Herb Lyme protocol for about 5 weeks now, and I am still herxing quite badly, with nausea being one of my recent symptoms that has reared it's ugly head. I have had to cut back my Allicin pills in half, because the die-off was too intense. Any thoughts on Lyme and nausea, as well as dialing back on a dosage, would be greatly appreciated. The thing that discouraged me from taking a combination of herbs was, what if just one of those did not agree with my body? How would I know which herbs?

I know that combo herbs have worked for many, but they made me nervous.

Also remember that maximum dose is not necessarily the maximum dose for everyone. Sometimes it only takes a little to benefit from the herb.

I agree with PeteZa on the dosage and combinations of herbs making me nervous, but I do combinations of herbs as well. That was the only way I was going to get herbal treatment when I started (way back when).

Have you tried fresh ginger tea 3 times a day yet? That's what helped me, although it took a few weeks before the nausea really went down to a low level. Peppermint tea may also be helpful.

Peppermint tea works great for me for nausea. I cannot tolerate ginger at this time unfortunately. Ginger has so many healing qualities.

I use Mint Medley - combo of peppermint and spearmint.

I fill a half gallon jug of filtered water and just drop in 1 tea bag. Into the refrigerator it goes and a half a day later I have refreshing mint(S) tea.

I quit doing the sun tea when I found a slug way too close to my tea jug. Grossed me out so badly. Found doing it in the fridge was easy and I felt good about the cleanliness.

Thanks for the quick response, I have been drinking ginger tea for awhile=in fact I am boiling the water right now, and it helps, but not all the time. My GI suggested taking Gaviscon, but we'll see.

I was on abxs for 5 1/2 months(with mixed results),and frankly I needed a break-I have a Candida problem and as you probably know, antibiotics are Yeast's best friend. Dr. Zhang's Herbs are designed to kill the Lyme bacteria, while building up immune system ar rhhe same time-I have never herxed on abx like I am herxing on the herbs-he explained to me that that this formula is getting to places where the Lyme is hiding or is dormant-places that abxs do not get to. I am hoping and praying that it works.

I would encourage you to check to make sure you have too much stomach acid before taking gaviscon or any other acid reducer - I'm always surprised by the number of Lyme patients that have discovered they have low stomach acid, like me. : hansacenter.com/simple-at-home-test-for-low-stomach-acid/
