Hi Echo -
Sorry you're experiencing a set back. It's great that you got started on the Malerone - waiting for my MD to start me on it. I've also heard it is a tough ride. You're brave. ;)
My guess is you might have experienced what happens to me very frequently, when starting a new med or herb, it hits the infection and you have some relief but with toxin build up of what you're killing, you might not be detoxing well. So you get a buildup of toxins. The buildup of toxins not only exacerbates current symptoms but it also creates more symptoms and can overwhelm your immune system. Welcome flu!
Women experience quite a few hormonal changes during our periods, which are actually a detoxing process so that could have added to the buildup. And the BVT is antimicrobial, adding more toxins.
But the cold sore is a dead giveaway that your viral load surged. With all the toxins, the immune system gets overwhelmed and other ailments gain a foothold pretty easily--for me it's ALWAYS a high viral load. My LLMD thankfully didn't start me on lyme & co treatment until I got my viral load under control. After testing it out a few times, I now know that I have to maintain a certain level of antiviral in my system to keep the viruses under control.
You might want to start on an antiviral Rx (I have used several) or you might have luck with herbals like Beyond Balance IMN-V-II. There are several others.
But you also need to increase detox. We have to detox what we're killing at the same rate as we're killing it or the body gets overloaded. One of the reasons many of us are struggle w/ lyme & co is that we really need to support our detoxing functions - we can't do it naturally as well as we need to be (genetics are a big reason). You might share what you're currently doing or do a search for ideas - we talk about
it very frequently here.
Hope this is helpful - if not keep asking q's!
