Confirmation test for band 31

My dr ordered the confirmation test due to my positive on band 31 and possible cross reactivity of viruses.

My results are IgM 41++
IgG 30+, 31++, 34 IND, 41++, and 58++.

So my IgG results were IND

My question is if my confirmation test comes back negative, does that mean I may not have Lyme and it is the viruses? I have had EBV snd CMV in past. My dr believes I have chronic Lyme due to history, symptoms, and muscle testing. I also had herx reactions to a six week trial of micro bacterial herbs. Can Lyme cause these viruses and give false positives? Or do these viruses cause Lyme? I'm new to all this, but have an extensive history that points to Lyme despite my negative test.

LBD lyme is a clinical diagnosis. You are with a LLMD right?

I did not want you to wait for someone to welcome you, so I had to do it tonight. I am so very sleepy right now and can barely think. It was a long day of driving and traffic was horrific.

Hi LBD, welcome.

According to Dr. Horowitz (well-known, highly respected LLMD) - band 31 should be included in the "Lyme Specific" group of bands.
He says it's rare for it to be a virus -EBV.

If your band 34 was a + instead of and IND, along with bands 31 and 41 being positive, you would have an Igenex positive test.

An IND means something showed, but not dark enough to be considered a +

Btw - you said you had a negative test result? You had an IND - that is not negative.

Having said that - as PeteZa said - Lyme disease should be a clinical diagnosis. The testing is sorely lacking...and produces many false negatives.

Girlie, He is band 31++, this means it likely is lyme given strength of the response as well considering EBV is rare. I got this test done with an IND on 31 but it came back negative, I'm guessing because of the weakness of my response.

It sounds like his Dr is running procedural tests for confirmation where needed. But at the end of the day it can still come back negative. I doubt it will given your response and other positive bands though.

At least that's how I see it, I'm no LLMD

Asmoline - Yes, it is most likely lyme - as I said above - band 31 should be included in the "lyme specific" group.
Rare for it to be a EBV.

The epitope test can confirm it's lyme (sensitivity >97% in late lyme; Specificity >98%)

It is not necessary to have a positive test result for a clinical diagnosis...but some Dr.'s do like the Epitope test done for confirmation.

LBD - It's not that lyme is causing the viruses...or vice versa - it's just that the band 31 cross-reacts with the EBV virus - RARELY.

Again, according to the expert, Dr. Horowitz - band 31 is significant for diagnosing lyme...and is included in his 'lyme specific' group of bands.

Welcome LBD30! Despite the test results it sounds like your doctor is going to treat you for Lyme, correct?

Yes, I started treatment 6 weeks ago with samento, quina, teasel, and Apo heptat. I'm not sure what will be added in my protocol since I'm waiting to see a different LLMD at my clinic. Thanks for the help!

LBD, I just wanted to welcome you to our forum.

Your LLMD sounds convinced that you have Lyme and may just need confirmation to protect himself. Then it is in your records.

I really don't have anything to add but just wanted to let you know that though we are not glad you have Lyme, we are glad you found us. There are so many questions you may come up with that can't be answered through a book or a Dr. who has never had Lyme so it is a great place to ask or even vent if you need to.
